Quote Postby demon333 » 2011/10/31 15:19:01 Hi,I am having terrible trouble installing CentOS6, I centos network install have tried everything I can think of, but now need some assistance.Initially, I was intending to use CentOS v5.7 for these production systems, but as they

will be clustered, and conga/luci/ricci are riddled with bugs preventing this, reinstalling v6 seemed the only possible solution - which has updated clustering packages (in the hope that those issues have been resolved! I know, I have a lot of faith!).In short;Installation DVD-------------------I cant install from the DVD as I get the following ubuntu error;"Unable to read group information from repositories. This is a problem with the generation of your install tree."This is using the Virtual Media feature of our KVM system. All other OS versions have previously installed fine.I have verified the iso, whose checksum matches.NetInstall disc---------------I can't install using the netinstall (prefered method) because NetworkManager does not seem to bring up the NIC properly!Steps to reproduce;1. I boot from the netinstall iso CentOS-6.0-x86_64-netinstall.iso2. I select Installation method as 'URL'All four network interfaces are shown3. I select eth0, IPv4, Manual configuration4. I configure IP, netmask, gateway and nameserver, then click 'OK'There is no error, nor any reported problems, but the NIC fails to come up. Or more specifically, does not respond to PING or connect to the repo.Target systems are: http://www.supermicro.com/servers/blade ... 25B-T1.cfmI presumed all the hardware is compatible as I have never had a problem installing CentOS ( the Network Manager box about two minutes into installation. I can't seem to get eth0 configured--get the error that "There was a problem configuring your network interface." Have DHCP enabled, which is the correct setting for my router, so it should work fine. There's a retry button. If I hit retry, it http://www.centos.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1423 sends me back to change IP settings, but when I hit submit it actually doesn't try again to reconfigure--it just proceeds with installation without a network connection. Eventually I get 73% through until it hangs at the freepbx package, which I'm assuming http://community.freepbx.org/t/error-configuring-network-interface-during-installation/20544 has to do with the system lacking a network connection. Is there any explanation for this besides a CentOS-incompatible NIC? I bought this machine specifically because I had read some forum posts indicating that it works with the distro, but now I'm stuck in the mud. Since I can't actually get through to a command line or anything, and I have no spare NICs sitting around, I have no idea how to diagnose this. Thanks for any input, Doug dugma78 2014-01-19 15:20:27 UTC #2 Ah--just tried unchecking the box for "Enable IPv6 Support" and it seems to be proceeding alright now. Solution: 1) Creating a Hyper-V server First, create a virtual machine within Hyper-V manager. If yo don't know, please refer to Step by Step Guide to Create Windows Hyper-V Virtual Machine. 2) Adding Legacy Network Adapter CentOS5 doesn't support synthetic deivces. We created an emulated network adapter to access Interate in order to make installation convenient. Select the new VM -> In Actions pane, select Settings... -> In the new VM's setings window, on the left pane under Hardware, click Add Hardware. -> On the right pane under Add Hardware selec Legacy Network Adapter and click Add. Figure 1 The right pane's content will change to Legacy Network Adapther . Drop down Network: list and select External Virtual Network. Click Apply. Now you have an emulated network adapter to be used to access Internet before enable synthetic network adapter. Firgure2 3) Install CentOS 5 On left pane under Hardware, select IDE Control 1 -> DVD Drive. On right pane under Media select proper installation media. We used CentOS DVD image to install, so select Image file : and Browse to the image file and open. Click OK Firgure3 Double click the VM in Hyper-V manger. There would pop up the Virutal Machine Connection Window. On the new VM window, select menu Action -> Start. Now CentOS installation start. Figure4 The intall process is much the same like to install on a physical server. The emulated network adapter should be recognized and should show up as Figure 5.. We would configure it to make installation more convenient. Figure 5 4) Install Linux Service Integration Component Now we'll go through the most exciting part of the installation, Linux IC installation. Donwload Linux Integration Components for Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V to your host server. The URL for the time this article is writen is here Figure6 After extract the ISO file, mount it to the new VM's DVD drive (shows in Figure3). To install the drivers we need the development tools. The easiest way to install those is via Yum. sudo yum groupinstall "Development Tools" Next we will copy the contents of the cdrom to the server mkdir -p /mnt/cdrom mount /dev/cdrom /
