on image uploads to Tumblr?UpdateCancelAnswer Wiki11 Answers Fredrik EkelundUpdated 143w agoAccording to the Tumblr Documentation, photos can't be larger than 10MB to be uploaded. Photos of that size will however be compressed when uploaded.Different rules apply for animated GIF's, they can't be larger than 1MB and can't be wider than 500px. This is probably because animated GIF's are much harder to compress, if you want to keep the animation & details of the original intact.Footnote: added this answer because the suggested edits to Leo Shapiro's post hadn't been applied yet.Edit: as Jordan Gray pointed out, they have lowered the file size limit from 2MB to 1MB.54.3k Views · View UpvotesRelated QuestionsMore Answers BelowHow much of the content on Tumblr is made up of images? How can I improve the quality of gifs I want to upload to Tumblr? Is there a good way to import larger-sized Flickr images into Tumblr? What is the approximate image size Tumblr API allow for publishing? What is the size limit for tags in Tumblr?
