Unanswered ERR: There was an error launching the application: iOS Simulator failed to install xamarin windows ios simulator the application. lpinho Luis PinhoUSMember ✭ September 2013 in iOS Hi all, Almost every time I try to launch an application in debug I'm having the error: ERR: There was an error launching the xamarin simulator application: iOS Simulator failed to install the application. Xamarin just updated to the new 7.0 version and the simulator is now version 7.0. Besides my application being completely different (I would prefer to use a word started by sh...), its rare to be able to start it. Any help, please!!! Thanks 0 Posts JGoldberger Jon Goldberger USXamarin Team, University Xamurai September 2013 Hi Ipinho, Did this happen before your update also, or did it just start after the update? Does the simulator start at all? 0 lpinho Luis Pinho USMember ✭ September 2013 edited September 2013 Hi Jon, the simulator (v7, v6.1 disappeared) starts without any problem, the problem occurs starting the application. I'm gonna re-install everything and try it out, because in a 2nd machine, everything seems to work, the only problem in that other machine is that the applications cannot have as deployment target version 6.1, only 7.0 or 5.0 and below. The result is that the applications have completely changed their look because they are being compiled against the new API - at least, that's what it seems - (but that's another topic I'm gonna open). After re installing everything I will try to see if everything works correctly. EDIT: forgot to answer the question. No, this never happened before. Thanks again for the reply, Luis Pinho 0 BrendanZagaeski Brendan Zagaeski USForum Administrator, Xamarin Team Xamurai September 2013 edited September 2013 I'm seeing this too, though I'm running OS X 10.8.5 under VMware (on a Mac). When I double-click it, I get the error message "There was an error launching the application". How can I get more detailed information about what the problem is? I saw a reference to a "details" section of the dialog box, but there is nothing like that present in the one http://askubuntu.com/questions/436999/how-do-i-diagnose-there-was-an-error-launching-the-application I see. If I were on my Mac, I'd open the Console app to see if any errors were logged, but I haven't learned of anything similar on Ubuntu. (Note that unlike other similarly-titled questions, I am not asking what's wrong with this particular .desktop file; I want to know how to find out in general.) launcher .desktop share|improve this question asked Mar 20 '14 at 17:48 Kevin Reid 3161314 1 I would just run the Exec line from the terminal and see what the output tells you, but are you sure the desktop file is ok? maybe you should check and run it from the terminal as well. –Jacob Vlijm Mar 20 '14 at 17:51 @Jacob If there is a way to "run it from the terminal" that puts something useful on stderr, that would constitute an answer to this question. –Kevin Reid Mar 20 '14 at 17:56 Jacob just gave you the way: open a terminal and run the exact command you have as Exec, that should give you more info. We can't tell you any more unless we know more details about what you're attempting. –terdon♦ Mar 20 '14 at 18:23 1 @terdon I tried that, and it turned out that (as the next problem) the environment was diffe

Didn't go away until I did "Reset Contents and Settings" on the simulator (and also threw salt over my shoulder, swung a black cat over my head, and recited 20 "Hail Marys"). –Hot Licks Oct 10 '13 at 19:55 add a there was an comment| 22 Answers 22 active oldest votes up vote 139 down vote I had the exact same problem - I reset the iphone simulator and then quit the simulator (i.e. command q) then started it again. Worked. share|improve this answer answered Jan 17 '09 at 2:31 oacis 1,391173 I had the same problem. Resetting content and settings alone didn't do it; i had to quit and let xcode open it for me to make it work. –Kevlar Jun 19 '09 at 18:33 1 Quitting xcode didnt seemed to matter much. But restarting simulator does it! Thanks for the tip! –prakash Jun 30 '09 at 9:16 4 FWIW, I just had to quit the sim & re-build/install/run -- didn't need to reset. I suppose there may be other conditions that require reset, but wanted to offer the "try just quitting sim" option as a first cut. –Olie Mar 3 '10 at 19:05 1 Correct answer. But I wish there was a way to fix it permanently. I get this (and have to quit simulator) many times a day right now! –Joseph Humfrey Oct 15 '13 at 15:59 4 oacis got all his credits just from this answer, thats really amazing :P –Maniac One Nov 4 '13 at 11:51 | show 5 more comments up vote 10 down vote Boy, is the answer to this one hard to find, but I came up with a workaround. The simulator gives this error if it has any problems with accessing files in ~/Library/A
