I presume the failure to produce the profile is due to the error message "There was an error while gathering PCI card information." What could be causing this and how do I correct it? The manufacturer's developers urgently need the profile to investigate a hardware problem as they cannot reproduce the bugs I'm experiencing.Model Name: Mac ProModel Identifier: MacPro3,1Mac OS Version: 10.5.7 (fully up to date). More importantly there were newer drivers on the nVidia website than those supplied on the eVGA CD which came with the GTX285 card. Neither sets of drivers work with the Sims 3. Get rid of UseMemDetect key (on com.apple.boot.plist) if used, and use smbios injection http://forum.voodooprojects.org/index.php?topic=1493.0 instead.Greetz Logged Discussion Forum: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=216726 French Forum: http://www.darwinx86.net/forum/61-section-francaise-/1880-espace-de-discussion MacBookPro18: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=215233 osxfr33k Observer Posts: 26 Re: System Profiler There was an error while gathering this information for memo « Reply #2 on: July 17, 2010, 12:46:40 AM » Thanks for the reply. Details of how error started: 1. I recently bought a Mac Pro Mid 2012 2 x 2.4 GHz 6 core intel zeon 12 Gb DDR3 Firmware flashed Video Graphics card: ATI Radeon 6870 OXS 10.7.5 2. I installed a MOTU there was an PCIe 424 audio interface card that worked fine on my previous Mac Pro 2006. 3. After installing the MOTU PCIe 424, I booted up the new mac. Although it was seeing the card in system prefs/audio, it was not communicating with the external MOTU HD 192 audio interface. When I went to system profile / PCI cards, I was getting that message : There was an error while gathering PCI card info 4. I left that new Mac on and went away for a bit. When I came back, my new Mac Pro 2012 was dead. 5. Investigations showed that the logic board and power supply were fried. 6. The guy I bought the Mac Pro from gave me a one year guarantee, but now is refusing to take it back, saying that the MOTU PCIe 424 board was the culprit - I find this hard to believe. - I will be testing the card soon in a friend's redundant Windows machine. 7. My main suspicion is that either the non mac compatible ATI Radeon 6870 (flashed) or an incorrect setting of the fan control (most likely) fried the mac. *Note: the previous owner who is a bit of a techie, came over at the beginning and installed the video card, flashed the firmware and also installed and set up the

OSX 10.8.2 and latest nVidia drivers seems to be able to run the GTX cards normally (except the boot-up screen). #22 Jeff Kilgroe View Profile View Forum Posts Private Message Moderator Join Date Jan 2007 Posts 16,365 03-04-2013, 09:11 PM Look in your system profiler to see what the PCIe link speed is for the card. If it reports back as 5.0GT/s, then you're running at the proper speed. If it reports back as 2.5GT/s, then you're not and are locked into low-power mode. As for GPU benchmarks, which ones are you running? I'm not aware of any good ones on the Mac, short of stress-testing the GPU in Resolve. Don't waste your time with Cinebench, they haven't updated their tests in ages and they don't stress any of the newer hardware or give any meaningful anything. - Jeff Kilgroe - Applied Visual Technologies, LLC | RojoMojo - Weaponized Dragon for hire. 8K available... "There was an error while gathering PCI card information." Another sad side effect of no Apple ROM, even with updated CUDA drivers. Sadly no PCIe link speed under the Graphics tab either. I wonder if there is another utility that can check PCIe link speed, or a common benchmark someone with a flashed 570 might be kind enough to run? The more opinions you have, the less you see.
