This is almost a result of: A perimeter firewall on the server's network is filtering out incoming OpenVPN packets (by default OpenVPN uses UDP or TCP port number 1194). A software firewall running on the OpenVPN server machine itself is filtering incoming connections on port 1194. Be aware that many OSes will block incoming connections by default, unless configured otherwise. A NAT gateway on the server's network does not have a port forward rule for TCP/UDP 1194 to the internal address of the OpenVPN server machine. The OpenVPN client config does not have the correct server add

been having trouble with OpenVPN, the issue that I had was caused by having previously installed HotSpot Shield VPN. Apparently, tls error codes it messed with the registry or something and prevented OpenVPN from working properly. Even if you've never used HotSpot Shield VPN before, it is still possible that your registry files were corrupted by a https://openvpn.net/index.php/open-source/faq/79-client/253-tls-error-tls-key-negotiation-failed-to-occur-within-60-seconds-check-your-network-connectivity.html VPN you used from another company. The Fix While it does take some work getting everything set up properly again, I was able to fix the issue by reinstalling Windows and then installing OpenVPN. Hopefully, this solution will work for you too. Today, I set up a VPN with OpenVPN at my house to increase my security, however I am getting an error which is preventing me from http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1742035/openvpn-tls-error.html connecting to the server that works. Error: TLS Error: TLS key negotiation failed to occur within 60 seconds (check your network connectivity) I somewhat understand what the error means, and I checked their How To guide, but I was unable to get it to work wiith the solutions they provided. I checked and made sure that port 1194 is forwarded for UDP, and it is. Also, I am connecting to a computer in my house with the IP Address of 192.168.1.132. Most likely it doesn't like your certificate authority. Rebuild your certificate authority (usually ca.crt) and then build separate certificates for your openvpn server and each client. Check your configuration files, *.conf if linux and *.ovpn if windows. Make sure they point to the correct ca.crt and server or client.crt and .key files. Last make sure your OpenVPN network doesn't overlap your local network. sysadmin - portdefender Reply to cptmikey m 0 l MastaChief11 22 July 2013 18:43:28 cptmikey said:It doesn't like your certificate. failed to occur within 60 seconds OpenVPN may display the error message "TLS Error: TLS key negotiation failed to occur within 60 seconds (check your network connectivity)" in the OpenVPN log if is https://www.sparklabs.com/support/kb/article/error-tls-error-tls-key-negotiation-failed-to-occur-within-60-seconds/ unable to connect to the remote VPN server. Viscosity performs a "reachability check" before attempting to connect a VPN connection. This check allows Viscosity to determine whether the remote VPN server can theoretically be reached over the network so a connection can be established. As this check is passing it means the fault is unlikely to lie with your computer. It is more likely one of the tls error following is the case: The remote VPN server is down or unavailable. You will need to get in touch with your VPN Provider to check on the VPN server's status. If you are unsure of who your VPN Provider is, please see How Do I Find Out Who My VPN Provider Is?. You are being blocked from contacting the remote VPN server. This is not uncommon in tls handshake failed countries that attempt to censor the Internet, or in some workplaces for security reasons. It is recommended you get in contact with your VPN Provider in this instance as well. Your connection's configuration details may be incorrect or out of date. If you have set up the connection yourself, you should edit your connection in Viscosity and check that the Remote Server Address, Port, and Protocol options are correctly set. Some VPN Providers may periodically update their VPN servers, so you may need to download updated connections to import. Again, you will need to get in contact with your VPN Provider to ensure your configuration details are correct and up to date.
