Jan 13, 2013 2:26 AM (in response to lolhaha) Can't tell you for sure, but there vmware converter unable to reconfigure the destination virtual machine seems to be an OEM partition on the source. In addition it looks like you converted the VM (Windows 7!?) with an IDE controller instead of selecting an "LSILogic SAS" controller in the converter wizard. One more hint. If the Windows version on your laptop is an OEM version (bound to the hardware), you may not be able to re-activate it in the virtual machine due to hardware checks and you would most likely violate the license agreement.André Like Show 0 Likes (0) Actions 2. Re: An error occurred during reconfiguration? lolhaha Jan 13, 2013 5:53 AM (in response to a.p.) The system i am trying to convert is windows 7. The oem partition that i think you are referring is the 100MB windows creates for recovery purposes and the vmware convertor is also selecting in the process of converting. In the converter wizard that [disk controler] is set to auto .Also, even if the result is a failed operation,

The conversion fails every time at 98% and says " An error occurred during http://superuser.com/questions/285645/creation-of-virtual-machine-fails-using-vmware-vcenter-convertor-standalone reconfiguration". I have googled it to death and it seems W7 has a seperate boot partition that VMware wants to have a driver letter, so i did that...still nothing. I have unable to the settings in the wizard not turn off the networking, rename the machine and file, using recommended amt of RAM...i dont know what else to look for. Im using the local machine that i am converting to store hte file, plenty of room @ 223GB, only takes about 80GB for hte file. This is my first trip to the rodeo with this stuff and an error occurred it isnt going as smooth as advertised. *oh and i tried to do the "configure machine" option on the VM file but it immediately fails with the same error. It seems you do still have to assign a drive letter to the boot volume fwiw. I have had this happen as well. The idea being to move the VM to an external drive and reclaim the bootcamp partition. The conversion progresses till 98% and fails with two warning and one error message Warning 1: Unable to update boot.ini on the destination machine's system volume. Warning 2: Unable to update drive letters for the destination volume layout Error : An error occurred during reconfiguration I tried thrice but no avail. Any help is appreciated. Other bits of information that might be relevant: I tried to load the bootcamped partition directly from OSX using VMWare Fusion 3 and it failed. Goes into an infinite loop of 'Starting Windows'->'BSOD'->Repeat. This was before I made my first attempt at using the converter. When initiating the conversion VMWare shows three available partition, one is the BOOTCAMPED partition, other is the OSX partition and third one is a mysterious 200 Mb partition that isn't visible anywhere else. I really don't want to build my Windows 7 machine from scratch again, but if this doesn't work I'll have to do so. windows-7 osx vmware-fusion vcenter share|improve this question edited Jun 29 at 20:57 Hennes 50.7k775120 asked May 19 '11 at 4:22 sumitkm 1711311 migrated from stackoverflow.com May 19 '11 at 8:55 This question came from our site for professional and enthusiast programmers. Okay, I gave up after the fourth failure. Either something is wrong with my Bootcamp partition or VMWare convertor can't handle current version of BootCamp. I wasted another MSDN license setting up a fresh Windows version directly in OSX using VMWare Fusion. Admins, feel free to close this thread. –sumitkm May 19 '11 at 23:29 Okay folks, here is an update. I attempted to use vCenter software because I was unable to load my bootcamped partition directly from OSX using VMWare. As s
