Search this forum ora-12203 forms 6i windows 7 for 'tnsnames' and 'ifile' or 'tns_admin'. I recommend the use of 'tns_admin'. The problem remains the same and maybe you should know that server-side the SIDs have changed from 3 character to 2 character naming and my troubles started from there...I have updated all tnsnames files accordingly with the right name-value pairs for SERVICE_NAME part. I am still checking your suggestions on the forum posts but have not yet found a suitable workaround. This error often is reported because the destination node is not available or http://www.orafaq.com/forum/t/98493/ because of unrelated network problems.1. Make sure that NetTest or SQLPlus is able to make a connection successfully.2. Ensure that the correct connect string is being used - check this in the TNSNAMES.ora file. Look at the TNSNAMES.ORA file to see that the ADDRESS parameters in the connect descriptor for the service name are correct.3. Confirm that a ping from the DOS prompt has the correct IP http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21348889 address. If the tnsping does not find the host then there is a problem with the TNSNAMES.ORA file E.G: wrong location or incorrect name in the connection. Please contact your Oracle DBA.In the Orawin95\bin there is an EXE called TNSPING.EXE to us this at the DOS prompt type.tnsping

My application was working perfectly when I left on a vacation, I come back and there is a connection problem and this is the error message I get! Nobody has touched my server (or so they claim...) in the mean time. What could be the possible reason for this error and what should I check. I've already checked the Listener process, the tnsnames.ora file, the service and connections through SQL*Plus & Toad. All of the above seems fine. I've also checked the permissions for the Oracle_home and all subdirectories. The Oracle sid has no special characters. I can't think of any valid reason. Somebody please help! Also in my TNSNAMES.ORA the PROTOCOL is TCP and what I see in the log file is PROTOCOL=BEQ. Can somebody please throw some light on this!!! This is on Windows NT Server 4.0 (Terminal Server Edition) & Oracle 8.0.6.0.0 Fatal NI connect error 12203, connecting to: (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=BEQ)(PROGRAM=oracle80)(ARGV0=oracle80ORCL)(ARGS='(DESC RIPTION=(LOCAL=YES)(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=beq)))')))(CONNECT_DATA=(SID=ORCL)(CID=(PROGRAM=C:\Program Files\Jouve\AirGTI Task Manager Suite\Airgtitm.exe)(HOST=JOUVE2)(USER=WilsonPl)))) VERSION
