Unable To Get Installer Types Windows Service
vote 4 down vote favorite Good morning everyone, I'm experiencing an error when using the windows installer to install an event source in a product I am deploying. The error message I receive states the following ... Unable to get installer types in the c:\temp\program.exe assembly. --> Unable to load one or more of the requested types. Retrieve the LoaderExceptions property for more information. Here is the block of retrieve loaderexceptions property code that creates the event source installer ... using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.ComponentModel; using System.Configuration.Install; using System.Diagnostics; namespace myapplication { [RunInstaller(true)] public partial class EventSourceInstaller : Installer { public EventSourceInstaller() { InitializeComponent(); string eventSourceName = "MyAppSourceName"; if (!EventLog.SourceExists(eventSourceName)) { EventSourceCreationData data = new EventSourceCreationData(eventSourceName, "Application"); EventLog.CreateEventSource(data); EventLog.WriteEntry(eventSourceName, "Source Added."); } } } } In the installer project I've added a custom action on Install named "Primary output from MyApplication (Active)" to run the event source installer. I have the following questions 1) Has anyone else run across this and what was the issue? 2) How do I go about retrieving the LoaderExceptions property of the installer? Are you trying to run the installer from the c:\temp\ directory? Are you certain the output of all projects and all third-party DLLs you use are included in the Deployment project? Click on a

09/05/2008 Software Deployment Windows Installer (MSI) Windows Installer (MSI) Error Messages I am converting a VS.NET Web app from .NET 1.1 http://www.itninja.com/question/msi-error-1001-is-driving-me-crazy to .NET 2.0. This web app has a Windows installer deployment package http://forum.applian.com/showthread.php?6873-Cannot-Uninstall-or-install-getting-error-messages-Error-1001-Unable-to-get-installer-types that works just fine with 2003. On 2005 however after meticulously converting it to be the same as the 2003 one, building it and running it, I get the following: Error 1001. Unable to get installer types in the C:\inetpub\wwwroot\CAMWEB\CAM.Web.dll assembly. --> Unable to load one or more of unable to the requested types. Retrieve the LoaderExceptions property for more information. Sounds simple right? I've looked all over the place to find information about this error message and am coming up blank. I enabled logging as suggested in the FAQ - I don't see anything that indicates what the problem is. I did find one clue on the 'net somewhere that suggested this unable to get kind of error is a problem with the Custom Actions. Also, I researched LoaderExceptions and cannot find out how to access this property. When I throw an exception for errors in the Installer class, it doesn't activate, so it seems the error is not occurring in the custom action code itself. Additional info: The installer has a custom Install class (in Installer1.cs) that adds a few lines of XML to a configuration file. If the error is in there it is hard to see where, because this code is relatively simple. Please help... ANY pointers or info would be appreciated, whether you know what the message refers to specifically, or tips on getting at the LoaderException property to find out what's going on. If so, one of the DLLs asmr.dll references probably does not exist. Check you event viewer for exceptions around this issue. You can also try deleting everything RMC4 related and run the uninstall from Add/Remove programs. Reply With Quote 03-30-2011,10:46 PM #4
