Unable To Copy File Obj Debug Because It Is Being Used By Another Process
Could not copy "obj\Debug\WeinGartner.WeinCad.exe" to "bin\Debug\WeinGartner.WeinCad.exe". Exceeded retry count of 10. Failed. Error 42 Unable to copy file "obj\Debug\WeinGartner.WeinCad.exe" to "bin\Debug\WeinGartner.WeinCad.exe". The process cannot access the file 'bin\Debug\WeinGartner.WeinCad.exe' because it is being used by another process. Now I've figured out that killing the process Weingartner.WeinCad.vhost.exe works (sometimes ) but this is getting on my nerves. Any way to stop this happening at all? My debugger settings are visual-studio-2012 build process share|improve this question edited Aug 7 '13 at 12:16 c# unable to copy file obj debug asked Aug 7 '13 at 12:01 bradgonesurfing 12.1k862112 For me it was caused by manually launched .exe in the Release directory. The problem was that VS cannot copy over an executable that is still running. I'll try to fix it with properly cleaning up resources so the program does not leave hanging after window close button. –lahjaton_j Jan 8 at 8:24 add a comment| 45 Answers 45 active oldest votes 1 2 next up vote 179 down vote accepted I encountered the error message(s) in VS 2013. Mostly it occured when the debug proces was stopped somewhere in an exception. When clean+build has no effect, closing VS, deleting 'bin' and 'obj' folders en openening VS again has till now always resolved the issue. The bug exists since VS2003. Also: renaming the file is often possible and then you can delete it. share|improve this answer edited Nov 13 '13 at 16:34 answered Oct 31 '13 at 15:04 Gerard 5,01864381 7 Same here, VS2013. I'm using VB 2010 express for a simple micro-controller programming project. No problem for years then I experienced the same problems as mentioned. The only fix for me was to select build/configuration manager. Then under Active solution configuration:Debug and under configuration I changed from Debug to Release. Closed the window, closed VB2010. Reopened and built my project just fine. I then did the same thing as mentioned above and changed Release back to Debug. Closed, reopened, and no problems since. Normally, if you recompile your application, the process running under debugger is automatically terminated, so it should not cause any trouble. What you see means only one thing: you have a bug, and a pretty subtle one. Somehow, automatic termination of your application does not stop something else. This h
