Allocating the Environment Handle The https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms712576(v=vs.85).aspx first task for any ODBC application is to load the Driver Manager; how this is done is operating-system dependent. For example, on a computer running Microsoft® Windows NT® Server/Windows 2000 Server, Windows NT Workstation/Windows 2000 Professional, or Microsoft Windows® 95/98, the application either links to the Driver Manager library or calls LoadLibrary to load the Driver Manager DLL.The next task, which must be done before an application can call any other ODBC function, is to initialize the ODBC environment and allocate an environment handle, as follows: The application declares a variable of type SQLHENV. It then calls SQLAllocHandle and passes the address of this variable and the SQL_HANDLE_ENV option. For example: Copy SQLHENV henv1; SQLAllocHandle(SQL_HANDLE_ENV, SQL_NULL_HANDLE, &henv1); The Driver Manager allocates a structure in which to store information about the environment, and returns the environment handle in the variable. The Driver Manager does not call SQLAllocHandle in the driver at this time because it does not know which driver to call. It delays calling SQLAllocHandle in the driver until the application calls a function to connect to a data source. For more information, see Driver Manager's Role in the Connec

Solved Sage : Unable to allocate and environment handle Posted on 2011-07-14 Tax / Financial Software Windows unable to OS Databases 1 Verified Solution 11 Comments 2,387 Views Last Modified: 2012-05-11 Hi We have a new installation of SBS 2011 with XP clients running Sage line 50, all work well, except one machine (i7 processor, with clean installation of XP and sage) which returns the above error when you try to print or run a report. We have reinstalled sage, done all updates unable to locate but still no good. Any help much appreciated thanks Martin 0 Question by:skippy1043 Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL 10 Best Solution byBruce Denney The thing you want to see happen is for the Sage installation to "notice" that .net is needed and for it to install the version that is shipped with it. The issue is subtle, you can have the same version Go to Solution 11 Comments LVL 40 Overall: Level 40 Databases 5 Windows OS 3 Tax / Financial Software 1 Message Expert Comment by:RQuadling2011-07-15 It has been a LONG time since I used Sage Line 50. From reading though, the error "Unable to allocate an environment handle" seems to be related to mySQL. In the old days, Line 50 used its own file format. If this has changed, then maybe the mysql driver should be updated. If you can confirm that Sage Line 50 is using mysql via ODBC, then check mySQL ODBC Drivers to see if you have the latest driver. 0 LVL 10 Overall: Level 10 Tax / Financial Software 9 Databases 4 Windows OS 1 Message Expert Comment by:Bruce Denney
