DistroUbuntu 16.04 Xenial Xerus Re: Uncompression Error...System Halted I'd say that's probably because you don't have enough RAM to run the live environment. The system requirements for 12.04 recommend at least 512MB of RAM, and if I remember right at least 384MB is required to sue the live-CD. You might have better luck using Lubuntu, or doing the install with the Alternate CD (or with Minimal Install CD and then adding some lightweight desktop afterwards). I've got U-Boot working but can't seem to get the kernel to load. Most of the time it only goes as far as: http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/115966/kernel-booting-stops-right-after-uncompressing-linux Starting kernel ... Uncompressing Linux... A couple of times while playing with U-Boot env settings it followed up with: uncompression error -- System halted I found some threads that suggested using LZO compression instead of GZIP so I've reconfigured the kernel, but now it's getting the LZO compression error message: Compressed data violation -- System halted Any suggestions how I could try to debug this? I've already enabled DEBUG_LL and printk in the kernel, but those haven't served me at all. linux kernel arm u-boot share|improve this question edited Feb 20 '14 at 9:12 Timo 3,9371024 asked Feb 19 '14 at 18:04 Gatica 13314 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote Seems that there was an read error so the decompressed data has no valid checksum. Possible reasons: RAM/SRAM errrors. Too little RAM/SRAM. share|improve this answer edited Feb 20 '14 at 16:59 answered Feb 19 '14 at 19:57 user55518 Yes, I'm worried it may be a RAM issue, but since I'm no expert in the U-Boot setting for RAM (we're using DDR3) it may be a hard one to debug. –Gatica Feb 20 '14 at 8:4

I partitioned my harddrive into ~ 45 gigabytes and 30 gigabytes. I put windows 7 on the 45 gig partition and tried to put Trisquel 6.0 on the 30 gig partition. I uncompression error installed Trisquel on a usb drive a while ago and was able to boot from it before. I actually was able to install trisquel on this computer before I had windows on it. This time I booted from the usb, chose install trisquel to hdd, and selected the 30 gig partition, with "ext4" and "/". It installed on the partition but when I try to boot it, I get "Uncompression error uncompression error system System halted". I'm actually getting the Trisquel boot screen which lets me choose between windows and trisquel. Windows works fine but when I choose trisquel, I get the error. I tried to reboot from the usb drive so I could reinstall it, but if I try, I get the same error. I chose "install to hdd". The "Try trisquel from USB drive" option didn't work either. I tried to choose "Test memory" but nothing happened. I didn't include swap space when I installed and I wasn't connected to the internet. What happened? I thought that 3 gigabytes is enough for that. How do I solve this? Thanks for your help. Top +1 0 -1 Sat, 08/23/2014 - 22:28 #1 smiley Offline Joined: 06/19/2013 Sounds like a corrupted image to me. I would re-download the Trisquel iso again from your windows partition and try to reinstall again. You may need to use a decent usb creator to recreate your image.
