using a binary file format is much faster in many ways. here is my problem. When I try to import .xslb and append into a table in Access database, I got the following error "unexpected error from external database driver (1). What is missing? We just upgraded to MS Office 2010. Thanks Wednesday, February 09, 2011 10:53 PM Reply | Quote Answers 0 Sign in to vote I'm not certain about importing data unexpected error from external database driver excel from an .xlsb, but I link to these types of files all the time. Just posted a similar method about 15 minutes ago; will repeat here. Access, open Excel, Data > From Other Sources > From Microsoft Query > MS Access Database > Ok > . . . navigate to the database . . . Ok > click the query you want . . . follow the Wizard . . . Finish. Any time the data changes in Access, you will see the changes reflected in Excel. You will notice some really cool features such as: Right-click > Table > Edit Query Right-click > refresh As for importing the data, look below for some ideas: http://www.accessmvp.com/KDSnell/EXCEL_Export.htm http://www.erlandsendata.no/english/index.php?d=envbadacexportdao Marked as answer by Bessie Zhao Friday, February 18, 2011 10:04 AM Wednesday, February 16, 2011 2:31 PM Reply | Quote All replies 0 Sign in to vote Hi Kevin, Thank you for posting and we are glad to help with you. After reading your post, I knew your issue and tested on my computer, however, I can't reproduce your issue. I can import data from Excel 2007 .xlsb file. Please try to repair your Office application from control panel or switch to another user account to test. I hope it can help you and feel free to follow up. Best Regards,Bruce Song [MSFT

I am attempting to import a large Excel spreadsheet (xlsx) into an empty table in Access 2010 and receive the error "Unexpected error from external database driver (1)". The input file has approx. 415K rows with 89 columns of data. The input filesize is approx. 182MB. If I segment the unexpected error from input file, I can import 350K records with no errors, but it fails while attempting to import 400K records. I have succesfully imported the data in segments, then appended them together to create a single table in Access. I have not been able to locate a listing of the external database driver error codes so have no clue what this is telling me. Can someone point me to a error code listing? Can anyone offer any suggestions on how to get around this problem (segmenting works, but I would rather be able to import it directly)? I am in the process of saving the xlsx data into a text format to see if that will work any better. The resulting CSV file is approx. 304MB in size. Thank you in advance for any input you can provide.
