Okay, here's what I have. It's an airport express 1st generation (802.11n, I guess) and the model number is A 1284 (it's the model with 1 ethernet socket, usb, headphone jack, et al). I've been trying to set it up in Airport Utility on its own, but no. I have also an Airport Time capsule-no problem whatsoever. Sets up fine, works fine, unexpected error plays fine with modem...can make wireless network A-OK. This little piece of....sorry, little so-and-so (might be young'uns around) has been a pain, to put it nicely. I've tried getting it to show up and be configured in the latest version of Airport Utility only to find out that Yosemite , at least with Wifi, and for this, anyways, has done some things that way, when they really need to be this other way for it to work (IPv6 has to be set to Link-Local rather an unexpected error than Automatic-whatever that does), to at least get the darn thing to show up and be visible. I've tried countless time to configure this. It shows up under other wifi Devices, and Airport Utility sorta recognizes it, sometimes, and when I run the setup wizard, it works partways, then it tells me "an unexpected error occurred. Please try again later:" What that error was and how I fix it? Haven't a clue... so...going nuts here...thinking bad thoughts about this involving an M-80 and a lit match...you get the picture..... (what, you're more nuts than usual?)' thanks for any help, good ideas or suggestions. I think this is compatible with Yosemite overall, but......... (I believe it's hold in reset button for 10 seconds while applying power until Amber light blinks)... I am on the road or I would send you the KB for it. OK, so I bought a AP Express yesterday and Ive yet to get it to work as a client. I have no interest in extending the existing network, as Im aware that it wont do that for non-apple wireless signals. I have a Huawei E355 USB WiFi hotspot key that provides my wireless network. It is secured with WPA2 mixed encryption. Ive tried shutting the encryption off so that it would be easier for the AP Ex to join the network but that failed also. I continually get the "Unexpected error occurred. Try again." message. Ive hard reset the AP Ex probably a dozen times and tried every single possible order of booting everything up. I can get the AP Ex to create its own network and function just fine. But then I loose internet capabilities for any of the products connected to the AP Ex. The sole purpose of the AP Ex in my case is for it to simply be a client and connect to my stereo for AirPlay. During the setup I instruct it to do so. I will either end up with a amber blinking light on the unit or sometimes I will get it to show green, and on my router it will show that the AP Ex is connected to the network, provide me its MAC address and all of that. But when I go into Airport Utility the AP Ex still doesnt show up, and when I try to connect via iTunes or my iPhone a connection failure always occurs. Im at about my wits end with this. Ive tried everything. Ive searched the net for over 4 hours looking for solutions or people with the same issues. Ive found plenty of people with
