I've had that happen to me many times, and if the URL doesn't exist, or gives an error, you'll get that message from Excel. Used the hyperlink function with vlookup to find document hyperlinks imported from sharepoint 2010. Hyperlinks work on second page but formula seems to corrupt the link or something.
