For that I am refereing the following Deploying ASP.NET Web Applications in the Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 _layouts Folder [http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc297200.aspx] Its works perfect on my local machine but when I was trying to deploy the same on clients machine it was giving me the "An unexpected error has occurred." The scenario is, There is not visual studio install on my clients http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1997803/an-unexpected-error-has-occurred machine so what I was doing is I simply copying my solution folder in 12'hives LAYOUT folder along with the bin folder. Please add more log details etc. And note the SO is not a support site. Its for programming. But perhaps someone had the same experience may help. –Chathuranga Chandrasekara Jan 4 '10 at 6:29 add a comment| 3 Answers 3 active oldest votes up vote 5 down vote Unexpected error might be anything, You need to see what is the root cause of the Error, Open the Web.Config file of the IIS SharePoint WebSite Search for the CallStack and change it to CallStack="true" Search for the CustomError and change it to CustomError="Off" Browse the page you will get to know the actual issue that causes the error You yourself can rectify it , it might be as simple as missing dll share|improve this answer answered Jan 4 '10 at 8:24 Kusek 4,84711344 B
fresh MOSS install on Server 2003 SP2 for a development server. Just a complete install using NTLM and a SQL Server 2005 database server. The install ran fine https://sharepointnoob.wordpress.com/2009/06/03/an-unexpected-error-has-occurred/ as well as the Configuration Wizard but when it opened CentralAdmin http://www.networksteve.com/enterprise/topic.php/Unable_to_access_Central_administration_3.0_website/?TopicId=3119&Posts=17 after the configuration wizard ran I got the following: Then I made the following changes since "An unexpected error has occurred" is not as descriptive as it could be: Edit the web.config file in Notepad for the site Central Administration (C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories\….is a number) Look for “CallStack” in the unexpected error SafeMode section, change the value from false to true. Look for “CustomErrors” in System.Web section, change the value from On to Off. Save the file and close it. Execute IISReset. Changing this will give you a more descriptive error so you can troubleshoot the issue easier. Once this was changed we did an IIS reset and went back to Central an unexpected error Admin to get this message: If unreadable: Server Error in ‘/' Application This implementation is not part of the Windows Platform FIPS validated cryptographic algorithms. I researched this error and found that it was a common issue with ASP.NET and you could do a workaround for it. Here is the link to the workaround or you can read the copied info below. **Make a backup copy of your web.config before you edit it** http://support.microsoft.com/kb/911722 Important These steps may increase your security risk. for this to stop working. I have a stand alone install of MOSS 3.0 on a Windows 2008 64 Std server. It's specifically for the AX EP stuff for our demo environment. When I do Start-programs- Microsoft Office Server - Sharepoint 3.0 Central Administration it fires up the web and just says "Error" "an unexpected error has occurred". Not really very helpful I know but thats all it says. In the event log I have this message "there is no administration site associated with the shared services provider sharedservices1". I have looked at the TN posting link below but I have no access to the central admin site so I can't really follow it!! http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepointadmin/thread/300c5d2c-ae05-4491-8d07-56a55d80edcf I have tried to browse direct from within IIS for the Central dmin site and I get the same error :(, I assume it is either a permissions issue to the virtual directory or something but I am in no way an expert in this area. Is there a step by step guide for idiots (like me) where I can check IIS settings and then permissions etc in a logical manner to help. I am really sorry for sounding daft but I am at a loss. Andy August 2nd, 2010 4:51pm can't you simply re-run the setup wizard? it should re create the website. Free Windows Admin Tool Kit Click here and download it now August 2nd, 2010 4:58pm There s no such thing as MOSS 3.0. Its WSS 3.0. MOSS 2007 is built upon WSS 3.0. As suggested by Emmanuel, kindly reinstall the wss and update us with the result. Thanks, Farhan August 2nd, 2010 5:07pm Thanks for the prompt response. I assume you mean the Office Sharepoint Server installation setup or do you mean the SharePoint Products and Configuration Wizard? If you mean the latter I have run this numerous times and it makes no difference.
