I have also tried SSIS but same error pops up. I have used following connection strings but none of them seem to be working: conn.ConnectionString = "Driver={Microsoft Excel Driver (*.xls)};" & _ "Driverid=790;" & _ "Dbq=C:\Report_1.xls;" & _ "DefaultDir=C:\;" Tuesday, https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/2139deb5-7435-4bfc-a087-df27be12ca31/unexpected-error-from-external-database-driver-22?forum=exceldev February 22, 2011 8:53 PM Reply | Quote Answers 0 Sign in to vote Hi Me.Saqib, Thank you for posting and we are glad to help with you. It seems that there is something wrong with the Microsoft Excel Driver. Try to execute the program in another PC to see whether this error happens. Please take a look at this KB article: http://www.codeproject.com/KB/database/ReadExcel07.aspx. You can use OleDb to connect the Excel file. I hope this can help you and feel free to follow up after you have tried. I have set Run64BitRuntime = false. I have tried to process several .xls files that have one worksheet. But I get an "unexpected error from external database driver (22)" message from them. When I use the original worksheet tab name (for example, POS Report-XXXX BRANDS-YYYYYYY), I get the error. But if I rename the worksheet tab something simple like "TEST" I don't get the error. Is there a way around this other than manually renaming the tab for each .xls file?
