in to Go to QuickBooks.com QuickBooks Learn & Support Home QuickBooks Help Last modified QuickBooks, United States 1316: A Network error occurred while attempting to read from the file The following error occurs when uninstalling QuickBooks Desktop: 1316: A Network error occurred while attempting to read from the file C:\windows\Installer\QuickBooks.msi. Why this is happening This error can occur when QuickBooks tries to access the QuickBooks.msi file from the C:\Windows\installer folder and the file is either missing or damaged. How to fix it To fix this problem, copy the QuickBooks.msi file from the installation CD to the installer directory. If you are using installation CD, please follow these steps. Insert the QuickBooks Desktop installation CD into the computer. Close any installation screens that appear. Right-click the Windows Start button and select Explore. Browse to the location of the CD (usually drive D, E or F) and open the QBooks folder. Find the file called QuickBooks.msi. Right-click the file and select Copy. Click the Windows Start button and select Run. The Run window opens. Enter %systemroot%\installer then click OK. Click OK. A new window opens displaying the contents of the installer directory. Paste the QuickBooks.msi file into the C:\Windows\Installer folder by right-clicking in the right pane and selecting Paste from the menu. After the file is copied, close the Explorer window, and then uninstall QuickBooks. If you don't have the installation CD, please follow these steps. Download the installer from support site. Double-click the downloaded installer to extract it to Temp folder location. The installation wizard opens and you have to close it out. Once the installer is extracted, you have to go to the Temp folder location. On your keyboard, press the Windows logo+R. The Run dialog box opens. Enter %temp% then click OK. The Temp folder opens. Locate and open the folder with the same name as your version of QUickBooks
