map data via Garmin's Map Updater, you may receive the following error: An unexpected error has occurred and the program must close. If you continue to experience this, please contact Garmin customer support. The following is a screenshot taken by Terry (a.k.a. tcassidy):
Garmin Express Unexpected Error Has Occurred
It appears the Garmin Map Updater file (the current version is GarminMapUpdater_v3.0.8.exe) may be related to this an unexpected error has occurred and garmin express must close issue. Check your Download folder for an older version of this file. Terry and I were able to successfully update our Garmin Mobile PC garmin map updater unexpected error has occurred (the hardware version with GPS 10x receiver) installations with fresh map data using an older GarminMapUpdater_v2.7.10.exe file. Garmin Connect Unexpected Error
I choose the GPS device it downloads to the PC just fine. I then have to send the new maps to Mobile PC via Mapsource. That has always the only way I could get new maps to Mobile PC. When I download new maps to my Nuvi 765, every thing works as you would expect. Worked this way on a 32 bit Vista laptop and now on a 64 bit Windows 7 laptop. I dunno ... Brad tcassidy I successfully updated Mobile PC
Garmin Connect An Error Has Occurred
(hardware version) maps on computers running Win XP, Win 7-32 and Win 7-64 using the older updater Marvin listed. How do you send the maps to Mobile PC via MapSource if they are only unlocked for your Nuvi? Terry SnoBear I have lifetime updates for both the Nuvi and Mobile PC. It would be nice if I only had to do the download once, but I haven't figured that out ... Brad tcassidy I agree with that. However, what I was wondering was how you unlocked the product in MapSource for Mobile PC without downloading the Mobile PC copy? Do you use the code on the MyGarmin page for Mobile PC? That code would not be there if you hadn't at least attempted to download the product. Terry SnoBear I do have to download the updated maps twice. Once for the Nuvi and once for the GPS puck. If I try to download for Mobile PC, I get the error from the top of this thread. Brad tcassidy Do you mean that your GPS (ie 20x) actually appears in the list of devices connected to the computer as in the screenshot below (I can't duplicate that as my BT 10x does not)? If so, you are already downloading the image for Mobile PC because that is what the 20x is associated with. Did you check Mobile PC Tools-My Data-MapSets to see if it was updated? Maybe our problem is to do with the updater no

find to update my nuvi 855. Before it does anything, I get the following error: Quote: "An unexpected error has occurred and the program must close. If you continue to experience this, please contact Garmin customer http://www.laptopgpsworld.com/4720-garmin-map-update-unexpected-error-has-occurred-program-must-close support." I've seen other people with similar errors, but no sure fixes. I've tried hard resets and even another Windows machine to run Map Update. No success. I had just used Map Update to load the previous maps about 5 weeks ago without incident. The http://www.poi-factory.com/node/42099 error (message size quote) appears to be a Windows or .net error. Running Windows 7, I found the error log here: C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Garmin\Map Update\SetupLog.txt Has anyone found a similar problem? Inside that file I see Quote: [2014-02-17 23:35:13 (UTC-05:00)] | The maximum message size quota for incoming messages (65536) has been exceeded. Scratch Pad: Garmin and Unexpected error Posted on Nov 25, 2011 by Serguei Dosyukov After recent update to Garmin Lifetime Updater for Garmin nuvi 765T with map life update subscription I have got "An unexpected error has occurred and https://blog.dragonsoft.us/2011/11/25/scratch-pad-garmin-and-unexpected-error/ the program must close. If you continue to experience this, please contact Garmin customer support." error which would not go away. After some research and looking around the running processes a problem happened to be very simple - not closed properly GarminLifetime.exe or GarminMapUpdater.exe - killing it solved the problem. One would think that updater would detect concurrent access to the device, but… Click to share on Facebook unexpected error (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Google+ (Opens in new window) This entry was posted in Scratch Pad and tagged garmin, lifetime updater, map update, nuvi 765, unexpected error.
