Their list of compatible phones includes "iPhone 2G, 3G/S, 4G".There is no such thing as an iPhone 4G. If they can't even get that right, I doubt they were ready for iOS 5. You're probably going to have to wait for a firmware update for the head unit. Their recommendation is to wait for apple to provide another update. The Best Buy rep also said he was having problems with other Alpine head units with the iphone 4S with SW 5.1.I'm posting as a way to let Apple know there is a problem and to see if others out there are having similar issues with 5.1 and Alpine products.I will be contacting Alpine during normal office hours to talk with them. Call Alpine. Alpine's own documentation does not claim it is compatible with the iPhone 4S or iOS 5. Technically, it doesn't even claim compatibility with the iPhone 4. It claims compatibility with the iPhone 4G, which does not exist. You are not speaking to Apple. This is strictly a user to user forum. It is not monitored by Apple. Helpful (0)

I've tried doing a hard reset on the phones (a 3Gs and a 4) and a factory reset on the HU (holding the red button) to no effect. This was with the white cable that comes with iPhones plugged directly into the HU. When plugged in, the device doesn't give any message at all. Today http://www.carstereo.com/forum/showthread.cfm?tid=63123 I tried an iPod touch and got the same message. I have a 160GB HD that works just fine, except that the controls on the HU are less than stellar when using a HD, and it doesn't display album art, which is a nice feature. I don't have the iPod cable that came with the HU (http://www.alpine-usa.com/product/view/kcu-440i/), but I am using the extension cable that came with it. Is there actually any difference between the Apple cable and the Alpine one, or is it just BS? I'll buy the cable if you experts think it will fix the problem. Your opinion or advice is appreciated, thanks! The music will alpine unit error be playing fine and then the deck will display this error message. If I unplug the ipod and plug it back in, sometimes it starts working again, sometimes it still doesnt work. Any idea what this error message is or what's causing it? I'm pretty sure it's not a problem with the ipod, it's either the cable or the deck. Any ideas?
