An Unspecified Error Occurred Chkdsk
r2 file servers (HP Proliant ML350 G6) seems to have a dirty d: drive. After every reboot, chkdsk runs on drive an unspecified error occurred (696e647863686b2e 820) "d:" and stops with an unspecified error (696e647863686b2e dee) when checking indexes. After the error it continues to bootand start normallyinto windows. The d: drive looks ok, but when I run chkdsk in windows https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/814412 the chkdsk runs andstops at the same point without warning or anything else. The guistops andexits, period. No message nothing. WhenI check the d: drive with "fsutil dirty query d:", the disk is marked as "dirty" .... The HPadvanced Proliantdiagnostic tools did not show any problems with the hardisks, I'm running latest HP drivers and firmwares on the server. Last but not least I don't have any special warnings/errors https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/f877ed5e-6f2e-4037-9b82-d7cc33b718f2/windows-2008-r2-server-chkdsk-loop-an-unspecified-error-occurred-696e647863686b2e-dee?forum=winservergen etc in the event viewer. Here is the output of chkdsk f.ex. in safe mode I did a few hours ago, the output/error is always identical: C:\>chkdsk d: /R /F /X The type of the file system is NTFS. Volume label is DATA. CHKDSK is verifying files (stage 1 of 5)... 184832 file records processed. File verification completed. 15624 large file records processed. 0 bad file records processed. 0 EA records processed. 5 reparse records processed. CHKDSK is verifying indexes (stage 2 of 5)... 10 percent complete. (182686 of 212928 index entries processed) An unspecified error occurred (696e647863686b2e dee). --------------------------- As of now, I have disabled the boot-time check on drive d: (with "chkntfs d: /x"), but I would prefer to restore it when the problem is fixed. I tried a lot of chkdsk and safe mode combinations, nothing helped. I don't have anyclues ... so your help is really welcome. Thanks a lot! Without at least its title we would have a heck of a job to find it.Have you tried the external in another computer? It might have died completely although chkdsk is obviously worth a shot.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks Report • #3 Johnw November 24, 2014 at 14:30:57 "Please give us a link to the post to which you are referring"http://www.computing.net/answers/wi... We have tried to run CHKDSK both from restart and from command window using the /x option. The CHKDSK program runs for about 8 hours then quits with the following message: ... Inserting an index entry into index $O of file 25. Inserting an index entry into index $O of file 25. Inserting an index entry into index $O of file 25. An unspecified error occurred. Then log of chkdsk message is attached. This was caused by a hard shutdown on the server. The volume resides on an HP MSA 60 SAS with 6 750gb drives in Raid 5 attached to this server. Any suggestions on how to get this files structure corrected? 0 Question by:pccbryan Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL 46 Active today Best Solution bydlethe chkdsk is not really designed to fix busted files as much as to write things off and prevent further damage. You probably have to do a brute force recovery/rescan. Purchase a product at runtime.org called GetDataBack which is a NTFS recovery. It might take days to run but it will give you a repaired directory tree and from there you can image this recovered array or just copy corrected files. But not much you can do to get chkdsk to just work and not give up. 0 LVL 11 Overall: Level 11 Windows Server 2003 4 MS Legacy OS 2 MS Server OS 2 Message Expert Comment by:farjadarshad2013-05-03 I would recommend you couple of programs for data recovery File Scavenger Version 4.1 {http://www.quetek.com/prod02.htm} Recover My Files {http://www.recovermyfiles.com/} {http://download.cnet.com/Reco
