Chkdsk An Unspecified Error Occurred Vista
Contents |
Posted on December 2, 2012 by Ray Woodcock I wanted to test a hard drive. I put it into an external USB enclosure and connected it to an ASUS Eee chkdsk an unspecified error occurred (766f6c756d652e63 461) PC. I booted the Eee using a multiboot USB jump drive. Upon booting, chkdsk an unspecified error occurred 696 I chose the Windows 7 Recovery Disk and ran CHKDSK from the Command Prompt. I made many attempts to check chkdsk an unspecified error occurred (766f6c756d652e63 3f1) and fix that external hard drive, using CHKDSK /R and CHKDSK /B. They all failed. Attempts using /I (e.g., CHKDSK /B /I) did not fail, but of course those produced a warning that an unspecified error occurred during chkdsk /I would not necessarily repair disk problems. When the attempts failed, they failed in stage 2 of 5, and most if not all produced this error message: An unspecified error occurred (696e647863686b2e e19). I hoped that, by running CHKDSK many times, perhaps the program would slowly eat its way through whatever corruption it might be encountering. At first it appeared that this might be taking

place. But at some point I became convinced that we were not getting past the 25% mark, and in some cases the number of index entries processed was actually less than had been processed on the previous try. I ran a search on the "unspecified error" message. This produced a plethora of plausible possibilities. It tentatively appeared that there might be different causes of the unspecified error. Mine, for instance, might have been caused by something that would only produce the "e19" at the right end of the error message shown above. Some of the solutions suggested in those webpages, or coming to mind as I read, were that trying with a different machine might solve the problem; perhaps the (Samsung) hard drive manufacturer's diagnostic CD would help; maybe I could accomplish something with other DOS-like commands (e.g., FIXMBR); maybe some other program (e.g., TestDisk) would do a better job than CHKDSK; possibly I could boot into Windows 7 and use its disk checking feature to fix the problem (i.e., in Windows Explorer, right-click on the drive > Properties > Tools > Check Now > check both boxes); conceivably an Eee driver update would help.

Home Premium 32bit Local Time: 10:33 CHKDSK error: unspecified error occured Hello every an unspecified error occurred (696e647863686b2e 820) body. my pc have a windows vista home premium with 3 derives (C:, D:, F. from one months ago an unspecified error occurred (696e647863686b2e 1e80) until now, it starts showing this message to me when i want copy, delete, or install any file on my F: derive: "the disk structure is corrupted and unreadable". i should add https://raywoodcockslatest.wordpress.com/2012/12/02/unspecified-error-hkdsk/ that almost every other day it shows this message to me and some times with restarting the pc the problem solves but some days latter again it shows this error. so i try to do a CHKDSK check at windows startup for my F: derive but at stage 3 it shows this error message: "unspecified error occured". what should i do? runs and (terminates abnormally) every time I start Vista. CHKDSK runs and (terminates abnormally) every time I start Vista. New 31 Jul 2007 #1 Hebbe Guest CHKDSK runs and (terminates abnormally) every time I start Vista. --Problem: I http://www.vistax64.com/vista-general/81652-chkdsk-runs-terminates-abnormally-every-time-i-start-vista.html have read of others having the same problem but I have never seen any post https://www.cnet.com/forums/discussions/frustrated-running-chkdsk-need-help-241912/ that actually solves the problem (apart from reformatting the partition) so I will try to describe the problem the best I can in hope of anyone coming up with a fix or an idea. Every time I boot Vista (Vista Ultimate 32bit) CHKDSK runs automatically but it never finishes successfully. It always terminates when it has done 25% of step unspecified error 2. Step 1 is only done by 9% and then it proceeds with step 2 without any message. After the 25% of step 2 it just terminates without any feedback (good or bad). At that point Vista continues to boot and does so successfully but CHKDSK will always be executed the next time I boot Vista. --What I have done so far when trying to solve the problem: 1. Executing “fsutil dirty query c:” unspecified error occurred reports that the volume is dirty so there is no surprise that CHKDSK runs when I boot but, since CHKDSK never finishes successfully, the dirty bit is never cleared resulting in this situation. 2. The hard disk manufacture provides a low level testing/diagnostic tool and that report that the disk is working perfectly. 3. By booting Vista from the DVD, and going into repair mode, I have tried to run CHKDSK from the command window. I tried any permutation of arguments that made sense with slightly different results. The results are as follows: Regardless of the arguments step 1 always ends at 9% (no feedback it just ends). If I specify /f step 2 terminates after 25% unless I also specify /I. If I specify /I step 2 terminates after 46%. If I specify /R step 2 terminates after 10%. In the vast majority of cases (regardless of arguments) CHKDSK just terminates (during step 2) without giving any sort of feedback but, once in a while, it does terminate and report that “An unspecified error occurred”. 4. I have (in desperation) run diagnostics tools that check the ram memory (primary memory 3GB) and there was no problem. --The situation as I see it: This has to be a bug in CHKDSK. Obviously I understand that there might be situations that CHKDSK ca

When I run chkdsk in windows all untagged, reports errors... so I try to run chkdsk/f with reboot. After 6% chkdsk reports error stops and reboots without fixing...I must have tried 30 times. Then I tried booting is a safe mode everything unchecked for booting it will run, report no errors and will fix it, but then reports my windows addition is not Genuine. I have to finagle a lot to get to msconfig to boot normally... with fear of being locked out of windows. Downloading the upgrade, plus pc's not coming with the original disk sucks.I have tried to reboot unchecking different items one at a ti
