Here is the error message I'm getting: Run-time error '-2147467259 (80004005)' Automation error Unspecified error the line of code is specifically when instantiating an InternetExporer object, except I have done nothing to change the code. In short, I need to http://stackoverflow.com/questions/25944187/automation-error-unspecified-error-with-internet-explorer-object-excel-vba visit a string of webpages (the list of the names on each page are already input, that code works fine). As my code visits each page, I need to pull back information. Unfortunately, there's a problem - it can't even make it through the "A" list before I get "Automation Error Unspecified Error" and it's never at the same spot. I've tried the "normal" steps to fix this. I've installed the VB 6 Controls and I've unregistered and re-registered mscomctl.ocx, http://stackoverflow.com/questions/24688816/vba-excel-automation-error-unspecified-error and including On Error Resume Next (which doesn't do anything). It usually reaches over 100 cases before it dies (randomly as I said earlier). And AFTER the error pops up, when I try to re-run it (with or without changes) and it errors on the first one. If I restart my computer it will let me try again (for whatever reason) but it still doesn't finish. Is the code too complex and I need to reduce it? I can probably find a way to make it only run for each letter at a time (run all A's, then do B's, etc) but I still can't even get it to complete the letter A. I noticed in another thread someone had suggested instead of using IE to swap to xmlhttp - is that a fix for this? Is the problem that this script is too long? What exactly am I doing wrong here? It is declared at the top of my Module modGeneral using VB: Public ie As shdocvw.internetexplorer Sub SomeSub() Set ie = createobject("internetexplorer.application") and for some reason when my program passes control to a sub in another module(modViewShipment), it seems to lose it. Does anybody know what might be causing this? PS if need be I can post more of my code. I wasn't sure what was relevant and what was not. Many thanks to anyone that reads this, and many more thanks to the one that solves it. --Doug Excel Video Tutorials / Excel Dashboards Reports Reply With Quote September 21st, 2005 #2 norie View Profile View Forum Posts Super Moderator Join Date 14th July 2004 Posts 10,577 Re: Unspecified Automation Error using IE object Doug Can you post the rest of the code? 2 lines isn't much to go on. I've had a similar problem getting the 'Automation Error' creating an instance of InternetExplorer within a function that is called multiple times. It works fine to start, but after a number of calls will crash with the automation error. I discovered that I had multiple IE processes in memory, which means that setting objIE = Nothing is insufficient to remove the process from memory. The solution is to call the 'Quit' method before setting objIE to Nothing. objIE.Quit 'Put in a brief pause set objIE = Nothing I have since moved all of my web scraping for this sheet into C# but I'm definitely keeping this in mind for the future! If you simply delete it and copy&rename IndFrame all works fine. But you probably figured out that already - I also wanted to tell you that you have a mistake in Dependent_change sub. You are using value of Independent instead of Dependent in the last ElseIf.
