Vba Error Handler Only Works Once
Error=False Hi Friends, We are using Business Objects 6.5. We developed a Report which is attached with VBA Macro. The Report is running properly when we refresh manually. But it is getting failed when we scheduling this using Broadcast Agent. when we seen view error text of failed task in Broadcast console it is giving the following error. "(303) Error with no error handler with Break on VBA Error=False" vba clear error Any suggesions Please?_________________Thanks & Regards Naveen Vandanapu Technical Associate Back to top Dwayne HoffpauirForum GroupieJoined: 19 Sep 2002*2*5Posts: 8644Location: Plano, TX USA Posted: Tue Apr 26, 2005 8:06 amPost subject: Re: Error with no error handler with Break on VBA Error=Fals Unfortunately, that is a very generic error message, and debugging VBA errors on BCA is quite a challenge. Generally speaking though, it is usually traced to one of two problems. The most likely is that you have some kind of interactive functionality in your macro ... like a custom dialog box. BCA by definition is not interactive, so the macro hangs waiting for a response, and eventually is killed by BCA. The other most common problem is with Windows account privileges ... the account used on the BCA server not having privileges to a directory used in the macro. Again, these are both very general statements. The recommended debugging approach is two-fold. First, try running the report manually from the BCA server, not from your own workstation. By running from the BCA server "interactively" you can hopefully get an idea of the real error. If anything other than the built-in prompt screen requires interaction, that is likely your problem. I am refitting my code with error handling. However, there is a lot I don't understand. I especially need to know how to correctly use it in functions. I use Bovey's rethrow version of the error handler (at bottom). When I started, I was using the basic boolean (non-rethrow) method and turned my subroutines into boolean functions. (P.S. I am switching back to the boolean method based on the answer.) I need guidance on http://stackoverflow.com/questions/19042604/vba-excel-error-handling-especially-in-functions-professional-excel-developm how to fit functions into this scheme. I want them to return their real values (a string or double, e.g., or -1 if they fail in some cases) so I can nest them in other functions and not just return an error handling boolean. This is what a typical subroutine call to bDrawCellBorders(myWS) would look like within an entry point. Sub calls seem to be working well. (I.e. it is a subroutine that was turned into a function only so it can return a boolean to the error handling scheme.) Sub UpdateMe() ' Entry Point Const sSOURCE As String = "UpdateMe()" On Error GoTo ErrorHandler Set myWS = ActiveCell.Worksheet Set myRange = ActiveCell myWS.Unprotect ' lots of code If Not bDrawCellBorders(myWS) Then ERR.Raise glHANDLED_ERROR ' Call subroutine ' lots of code ErrorExit: On Error Resume Next Application.EnableEvents = True myWS.Protect AllowFormattingColumns:=True Exit Sub ErrorHandler: If bCentralErrorHandler(msMODULE, sSOURCE,,True) Then ' Call as Entry Point Stop Resume Else Resume ErrorExit End If End Sub However, I don't know how to extend this to real functions. This is based off an example in the book that was drawn up for a subroutine, and I just switched it to a function. Questions: * How do I call it? Is it simply like x = sngDoSomeMath(17) * Will its error handling function properly? * Where is the right place or places to call the error handling routine with bReThrow=true? Publ
