Lately, VS will crash 10+ times during my 8 hour work day. In VS2008, crashes visual studio 2010 crashes on startup were common when working with large Xaml files, and while I experience some of that with VS2010, crashes occur when debugging, starting the debugger, stopping the debugger, and other random times when editing code. I've looked through the problem reports, and the one I've found that occurs most frequently is: Description Faulting Application Path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\Common7\IDE\devenv.exe Problem signature Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: devenv.exe Application Version: 10.0.30319.1 Application Timestamp: 4ba1fab3 Fault Module Name: ntdll.dll Fault Module Version: 6.1.7600.16385 Fault Module Timestamp: 4a5bdb3b Exception Code: c0000005 Exception Offset: 0002e23e I'm running Windows 7 (x64). Hoepfully someone has come across this problem and has found a solution. I plan on reinstalling VS2010. Hopefully that takes care of the problem. visual-studio-2010 crash share|improve this question asked Aug 4 '10 at 16:46 Quentamia 1,59811836 nothing in event log? Could you please show us more details, what caused you meet the error? When this error occurs? Normally, we can solve some common Visual Studio IDE error by these steps, so please first try these steps to see if these can help and then show us more details: Open Visual Studio Command Prompt (2010) under Start menu -> All Programs -> https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/vstudio/en-US/d89aefa4-0793-4789-b2d0-782689d551ff/devenvexe-assert-failure-visual-studio-2010?forum=vssetup Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 -> Visual Studio Tools (run it with Administrator privilege: right-click the program -> Run as administrator);Try some devenv switches in command prompt: Run devenv/Resetsettings to eliminate the cause of corrupted settings.Run devenv/ResetSkipPkgs in Command Prompt.Run devenv/Safemode to see if you can apply it correctly. This can eliminate the possibility that third party Add-ins or packages are causing problems. Reboot the machine in Safe Mode. This can isolate some third party application/driver's interference.Switch and try a new user account. This can rule out the possibility of corrupted user profile. If you have any updates, please feel free to let me know.
