Anyway, still having http://www.pcreview.co.uk/threads/error-649-the-account-does-not-have-permissions-to-dial-in.1575816/ issues connecting a VPN via PPTP from outside my LAN. Inside the LAN the following works; WIN2k pro SP4, WIN2k Advanced server SP4 and XP pro SP1. From the outside all connect except for XP pro sp1. Receive error 721, as I see many have talked about. I am connected to the internet via DSL (westell modem set up as pass through). The westell is connected to a WIN2k adv. server sp4 and is running RRAS, both routing and VPN connectivity. Using a SW firewall, which I have tried turning off to no avail. What about this GRE protocl 47, what is the best way to determine if it is being blocked? Does GRE only affect XP pro SP1? I ask, because that is when this all started, till now all was fine. However, I have the NPS policy configured to let all users of a certain group connect via VPN and the authentication methods match what the server is looking for. I also have set the NPS policies to honor dial-in access overrides on specific accounts. XP also errors out when connecting externally, saying that the user does not have VPN privileges (Error 649). Any ideas? Even explicitly giving a user dial-in privileges does not change this. vpn windows windows-sbs-2011 share|improve this question asked Mar 20 '11 at 16:51 Alexander Miles 3271925 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 0 down vote accepted I found the solution, you have to add users to the Windows SBS Virtual Private Network Users group. NPS doesn't seem to honor a normal usergroup (which is how I had it configured before). share|improve this answer answered Mar 22 '11 at 20:41 Alexander Miles 3271925 add a comment| Your Answer draft saved draft discarded Sign up or log in Sign up using Google Sign up using Facebook Sign up using
