The most common problems with VSS are documented among various sites in the Internet, and this article will help you identify the information that will help you find solutions to your VSS issues.Microsoft Windows contains several tools that aid in diagnosing VSS related issues. Principle among these tools is the command line utility vssadmin. Determine Writer Failure VSS employs what are called Writers that manage snapshots of different application data within Windows. To see what areas are encountering failures, we suggest doing the following: Click on Start, then in the Search bar, type cmd. When cmd appears at the top of the Start menu, right-click on it and select Run As Administrator.Type vssadmin list writers into the command prompt, then press Enter. This command will indicate which VSS writers, if any, are failing. We recommend documenting the writer statuses for future reference, or in the event you need to contact support for assistance.
