Open the small flap at the front bottom right of the machine. DONT unscrew the circular white knob yet!!! Use the small black hose to drain the machine into a tray, by removing the small cap on the end of the hose. You will have to use a tray, rather than a bowl because the hose is only short, and keep emptying the tray.(put a washing up bowl next to the machine, so you don't have to carry the tray.) If water does not come out of the hose, then gently unblock it with a piece of wire or fine knitting needle. When water finally stops coming out of the hose, it is time to gently unscrew the white knob anti-clockw

Thank you very much - I checked the filter and found a 5p coin, a bit of copper wire and some fluff in there. That was probably the source of the problem - I'll see how I get on with http://www.diynot.com/diy/threads/bosch-exxcel-1200-express-washing-machine-f18-problem.225094/ the next few washes my wife does. It's a weird filter - I assume the idea is that there's just a small gap so that nothing big can get past it ? Thanks again for your advice ! . I've checked the drain filter again and that is not the problem ? Any suggestions on what I should check next ? . Bankrupt, 11 May 2010 #4 zipper Joined: 20 Nov 2009 Messages: 2,789 Thanks Received: 505 Location: Aberdeen Country: Check the drain hose isn't blocked, restricted, kinked etc & make sure the kitchen plumbing is in order. Empty the water via the emergency drain then remove the filter. Check with your fingers that the pump impellor turns freely & there is no excessive slack. Run the machine on a drain program with the filter removed. Visually check that the impellor runs freely & evenly. F18 is a pump timeout error. There is a restriction someplace or the pump is defective & needs replacing. The only other thing it could be is a partial blockage in the tub sump hose. It seems as though it has a faulty drain pump. I have checked the hoses and the filter plug, yet the machine keeps coming up with E.18 error. Could this be the pump? Thanks in advance. Jay bosch exxcel washing Paul answers Bosch WAS28440AU/27 washing machine Spare Parts Hi Jay! In fact E18 error code on a Bosch washing machine indicates a draining time out. This could happen for a couple of reasons: 1) blockage inside the filter2) blockage inside the draining hose3) problem with the pump You need to : Check drain pump filter Check drain pump for blockage or restriction Check outlet hose for blockage or obstruction Check drain pump operation Check drain pump wiring If there was no blockage in the hose, or you removed it, but you still receiving the E18 error code and the machine is not draining, the problem could be the pump. Take the filter out, put the machine on spin, and with the filter out, check to see if the pump impeller is rotating. If the washing program is over and the impeller did not turn, it's possible that the pump is faulty. If your machine is not under warranty, and you would like to replace the pump, just click on this link of the video explaining the procedure on How to replace a Bosch Washing Machine Pump Also to try and help
