If referring to QT X or Mac OS X v10.8, then the problem could also be related to the core audio changes started in Lion and completed in Mountain Lion. Or drive authorization problem ? I will try other things next week, and check for core audio changes....thanks again ! I will keep you posted. Hello DUC: While opening Pro Tools sessions in v8 that were created in v7.4, I ran into a show-stopping error: "Unable to parse audio file xxx". The session wouldn't open. I recovered https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5338456?tstart=0 the offending WAV file from the Retrospect archive, tried again, and then another file had the same error. Suspecting something deeper than a Pro Tools problem (ignore for now the 7.4>8 issue), I found that the Leopard Finder couldn't play these files, but many other files from the same session were fine. Quicktime Player told me that it couldn't open them because of "OSStatus Error -208". It's almost certainly data corruption, but what may have caused it is unclear, as there are so many possibilities. I need to decide how to approach recovering a "corrupted" sound file. I videotaped a speaker using a Sony HVR-Z7U and the video and audio came out fine through that camera. I was using a Zoom H4N to record sound coming from the Sennheiser EW-100 Wireless Mic and had a Sandisk 32 gb SDHC card in the Zoom H4N digital audio recorder. The sound file containing a "test" of the mic by the speaker came out fine: this clip is 1 minute and seven seconds long. The power point presentation the speaker gave was approximately an hour long. All clips from this SDHC card play on windows media player on a PC laptop. I get the following messages from various media players I use to attempt to play this file: On windows media player, the message is: "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file," on Quicktime, the message is: "Error -208: an unknown error occurred (STE-006.wav)," and on the media player Audacity, the message is: "The File May be invalid or corrupted: C:/users/owner/desktop/ste-006.wav)." Any hint about a consumer program or professional service available to successfully recover and then play this file would be greatly appreciated.
