errors reporting in the event log every 6 hours or so, WSUS sppears to be working ok and machines are getting the simpleauth web service is not working. updates they need. However I don't like to see errors in the event log, usually means something ain't right, so tried to clear them. After checking the security on the default website I noted the server synchronization web service is not working. 12032 that anonymous access was disabled and after reading a few articles decided to enable it. I then ran wsusutil checkhealth and returned to event viewer and hey presto WSUS reported that it was fine. However, now I can't get access to the WSUS server console and just get a connection error. Join Now I have looked for an answer to this problem for the past 3 days. My WSUS 3.0 sp1 installation is hosed after a reboot. It seems http://www.techexams.net/forums/mcsa-mcse-windows-2003-general/70919-wsus-not-working.html this is a common problem that no one can answer. If you try to manage the WSUS installation it won't let you connect. There are errors in the Application log that: DSS Authentication Web Service is not running web service (Event ID 12052) The SimpleAuth Web Service is not working. (Event ID12042) The Client Web Service is not working. (Event ID12022) The Server Synchronization Web Service is not working.(Event ID12032) The API Remoting Web Service is not working. (Event ID12012) The Reporting Web Service is not working.(Event ID12002) I have checked and checked permissions and the Database. I think clients are getting updates but you can't manage the WSUS server to manage groups and authorize web service is updates etc. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Is your World Wide Web Publishing service started? If not, what event do you get when you try to start it? 0 Pure Capsaicin OP Rob Dunn Mar 12, 2010 at 9:55 UTC Here was an interesting tip that I found online: "try to run c:\Program Files\Update Services\setup\installselfupdateonport80.vbs" This is a script that is installed when you setup WSUS initially. It looks like it rebuilds the WSUS web service components, etc. 0 Jalapeno OP IXLR8 Mar 12, 2010 at 10:05 UTC I can connect to the default website on port 80 so IIS is running and answering calls but you can't manage the server through the console. I ran the script you mentioned and got this: SetupSelfupdateTree: Finding the index of the Web site on which WUS is installed ... SetupSelfupdateTree: Leaving GetWUSWebSiteIndex. So after performing a lot of troubleshooting and also using WSUS health check I just cannot figure out how to get rid of these following event ID errors. Event ID: 13042 - Self-update is not working Event ID: 12002 - The Reporting Web Service is not working Event ID: 12032 - The server synchronization Web Service is not working Event ID: 12022 - The Client Web Service is not working Event ID: 12042 - The SimpleAuth Web Service is not working Event ID: 12052 - The DSS Authentication Web Service is not working Event ID: 3083 - The protocol handler Search MapiHandler 1 cannot be loaded. Error description class no registered. I've got documentation on each event ID but so far no luck on either of them. The documentation is basically printed out details of each event ID. Has anyone gone through this before? I've checked the following basics: permissions are fine. Ports are fine. I then went on IIS and did a local browse of the default website (right click and click browse) and I ge the following error: "HTTP 401.1 Unauthorized due to invalid credentials" once I saw this I thought that my local account was incorrect. So I reset the password of that (btw Enable anonymous access is enabled too). Just hitting a brick wall with this over and over. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.
