checking the security on the default website I noted that anonymous access was disabled and after reading a few articles decided to enable it. I then ran wsusutil checkhealth and returned to event viewer and hey presto WSUS reported that it was fine. However, now I can't get access to the WSUS server console and just get a connection error. If I disable Anon the client web service is not working 12022 access I can connect again to the console fine but the errors come back...Any ideas or pointers as to where the issue might lie?RegardsDeanPS I am running Server 2003 and WSUS 3.1.6 Friday, August 07, 2009 10:40 AM Reply | Quote Answers 0 Sign in to vote When you enabled anonymous access on the site and virtual directories (which is, generally, the correct configuration), you may have overdone it and also enabled anonymous access on the APIRemoting30 virtual directory -- which should not have anonymous access.Disable anonymous access on the APIRemoting30 virtual directory and set it to require Integrated Windows Authentication and Digest Authentication, and that should restore connectivity to your console.Lawrence Garvin, M.S., MCITP:EA, MCDBA Principal/CTO, Onsite Technology Solutions, Houston, Texas Microsoft MVP - Software Distribution (2005-2009) Marked as answer by Eric Zhang CHNModerator Wednesday, August 19, 2009 10:30 AM Friday, August 07, 2009 5:42 PM Reply | Quote Moderator All replies 0 Sign in to vote When you enabled anonymous access on the site and virtual directories (which is, generally, the correct configuration), you may have overdone it and also enabled anonymous access on the APIRemoting30 virtual directory --
answer to this problem for the past 3 days. My WSUS 3.0 sp1 installation is hosed after a reboot. It seems this is a common problem that iis/web services extensions no one can answer. If you try to manage the WSUS installation it won't wsus error 12022 let you connect. There are errors in the Application log that: DSS Authentication Web Service is not running (Event ID 12052) the api remoting web service is not working. The SimpleAuth Web Service is not working. (Event ID12042) The Client Web Service is not working. (Event ID12022) The Server Synchronization Web Service is not working.(Event ID12032) The API Remoting Web Service is not working. https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/32d39515-0e71-42ed-aa42-0671e9dd3bf4/wsus-event-id-errors-12052-12042-12022-12032-12002-and-13042?forum=winserverwsus (Event ID12012) The Reporting Web Service is not working.(Event ID12002) I have checked and checked permissions and the Database. I think clients are getting updates but you can't manage the WSUS server to manage groups and authorize updates etc. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Is your World Wide Web Publishing service started? If not, what event do you get when you try to start it? 0 Pure Capsaicin OP Rob Dunn Mar 12, 2010 at 9:55 UTC Here was an interesting tip that I found online: "try to run c:\Program Files\Update Services\setup\installselfupdateonport80.vbs" This is a script that is installed when you setup WSUS initially. It looks like it rebuilds the WSUS web service components, etc. 0 Jalapeno OP IXLR8 Mar 12, 2010 at 10:05 UTC I can connect to the default website on port 80 so IIS is running and answering calls but you can't manage the server through the console.
