Cygrunsrv Error Stopping A Service Openservice Win32 Error 5
vote favorite 1 I installed Cygwin and sshd on Windows 7 but I'm not able to make it work. I followed the guide from http://www.noah.org/ssh/cygwin-sshd.html but I still get: $ cygrunsrv -S sshd cygrunsrv: Error starting a service: QueryServiceStatus: Win32 error 1062: The service has not been started. I am having similar problems? –Lord Loh. Feb 18 '12 at 21:21 i've foudn i can reproduce this error by going to services.msc cygwin sshd logon tab, and switching between local account(cyg_server), and system. each time there's a change, it needs an ssh-host-config -y done from a command prompt started via right click run as administrator, or from a runas /user:Administrator c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe That ssh-host-config -y must precede the net start sshd / cygrunsrv -S sshd. And if it doesn't work from a 'run as admin..' try from a runas/user:... cmd prompt. –barlop May 13 '15 at 2:46 add a comment| 10 Answers 10 active oldest votes up vote 7 down vote Thanks, Your update was the resolution - for anyone else out there, there is a recipe #3 against Win32 error 1062 at Cygwin startup: 1) Check the Application Event log, see if there are "Information"-level events there with something like: "sshd: PID : Possible duplicate cygwin1.dll:" Find that silly duplicate at the specified location and rename it or get rid of it from the path somehow. Error 1062 The Service Has Not Been Started
Date: Thu, 09 Nov 2006 07:52:53 -0800 Subject: Still seeing "Win32 error 1062" cygwin win32 error 1062 starting sshd with "cygrunsrv -S" with openssh-4.5p1-1. Suggestions, please? Hoping that the latest release of openssh would fix the problem I'm having starting http://serverfault.com/questions/340517/how-to-get-rid-of-queryservicestatus-win32-error-1062-when-you-try-to-start-ssh sshd as a service, I updated my Cygwin install to Ms. Vinschen's latest release, 4.5p1-1. I then re-ran ssh-host-config. Unfortunately, I'm still unable to start sshd as a service, either with or without privilege separation. I still receive the error message "cygrunsrv: Error starting a service: https://www.cygwin.com/ml/cygwin/2006-11/msg00224.html QueryServiceStatus: Win32 error 1062: The service has not been started.". I feel like I'm missing something obvious, but I've searched the mailing list archives and Googled for every combination of Cygwin, sshd, and cygrunsrv I can think of to no avail. If anyone out there has any suggestions, I would be very grateful. -B -- Unsubscribe info: http://cygwin.com/ml/#unsubscribe-simple Problem reports: http://cygwin.com/problems.html Documentation: http://cygwin.com/docs.html FAQ: http://cygwin.com/faq/ Follow-Ups: Re: Still seeing "Win32 error 1062" starting sshd with "cygrunsrv -S" with openssh-4.5p1-1. openssh Open a new bash shell window and https://www.itefix.net/content/cygrunsrv-error-starting-service-queryservicestatus-win32-error-1062-service-has-not-been-st run the SSH configure stuff. ssh-host-config -y This step will create necessary configuration files, a priviledge separation user and necessary directories. When prompted with "CYGWIN=" type for following: tty ntsec win32 error Now you are ready to start the service. cygrunsrv -S sshd Finished Bugs Sometimes you get a sshd/cygrunsrv service error after trying to run the service. cygrunsrv: Error starting a service: QueryServiceStatus: Win32 error 1062: The service has not cygrunsrv error starting been started. There can be a couple of causes for this. The following may fix the problem (this is not an option on XP Home). Solution 1. You may have an old or corrupt installation of Cygwin. Try reinstalling. The following may also help: cygrunsrv -R sshd REBOOT (or use the Task Manager to kill all instances of sshd that may be running in the background) run "ssh-host-config -y" again. This seemed to help on a few systems I worked on. Solution 2. Open an explorer window and use the "Properties | Security" dialog and explicitly add "Full Control" for the SYSTEM user to the following directories: C:\Cygwin C:\Cygwin\var C:\Cygwin\var\log Hope that helps!

COPSSH (or Openssh SSHD service) runs perfectly fine on the one server but for the love of me does not want to start on the other one. command line that i use to start = cygrunsrv -S opensshserver and i then get the following error: cygrunsrv: Error starting a service: QueryServiceStatus: Win32 error 1062: This service has not been started when i try to start the Openssh SSHD service from the Windows Services Console i get the following error: The Openssh SSHD service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs. i have searched to see whether there is a duplicated cygwin1.dll on the system but there is only one. i changed the user account under which the Openssh SSHD service runs and also elevated the security access to FULL control on the \ICW folder as well as subfolders. it did not help. i also changed the cygrunsrv Properties > Compatibility to run as Windows 7 or 8 and that also did not help........ i checked the setup between the 2 servers and they are the same.......what am i missing here? please help......thanks and regards Top reply Tue, 19/05/2015 - 21:04 #2 itefix Offline Last seen: 10 hours 48 min ago Joined: 01.05.2008 - 21:33 Well, if it works on one Well, if it works on one machine, then you need to focus on the differences between those two machines. I see that you've made some manual changes. I recommend that you uninstall Copssh on the problem server completely - uninstall, remove the installation directory and the service account and try to install again. Start then Copssh Control Panel and check log contents.
