similar posts and haven't found anything that helps. I have tried everything from editing the registry, installing Microsoft Fix IT apps, touninstallingall previous versions of Visual C++ andre-installingthe most recent version (2012 I think?). Most of the "fixes" I've seen say to uninstall the program causing the error after updating and replaces your Visual C++ but microsoft visual c++ runtime library error windows 10 I can't do this with explorer.exe. Is there anything I can try. Running 32 bit Windows 7. Please contact the application's support." I can somewhat navigate Windows Explorer but it hangs when trying to open C:. I also get this error sometimes when right-clicking to open the drop down menu. Closing the error window reloads the desktop. Chkdsk scan was clean; SFC returned no errors; message also occurs in Safe Mode; System Restore had no effect. The issue presented around the time that a phishing email was opened in Outlook. I don't know if its related. I did several different AV scans but found nothing but free range malware, PUPs. A Mcafee QuickClean was also run the day before. Mcafee has been completely removed from this system. In Event Viewer, it shows an APPCRASH, faulting explorer.EXE and C:\Windows\system32\msvcrt.dll. I'm stuck at this poi

It has also given a Visual C++ Runtime error for C:\Windows\explorer.exe "this application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way". I've run chkdsk /r, it found some errors in phase 3 and fixed them. I ran sfc /scannow, it found corruption but could not fix it. I ran DISM, it repaired the corruption it found. I'd also figure out what brand HDD is in the unit and go to the manufacturer's site, looking for any diagnostic tools they may have. It also couldn't hurt, making the assumption that your friend isn't overly technical (since they are coming to you for help), doing a thorough scan for malware using multiple programs would probably also be in order.
