They never tell you much about what you need to solve your problem. As for the error downloading codec, that's simply because the Microsoft server only carries Microsoft's own codecs (they used to carry more, like i263 or cinepak, but many got dumped). In most cases using a utility like VideoInspector, gspot, or avicodec will tell you more about what you need (codec-wise) or if there's problems with the file (truncated avi for example). If one of the utilities fail, use another. http://avicodec.duby.info/ http://headbands.com/gspot/ http://www.kcsoftwares.com/index.php?vtb 01-02-2005 03:58 PManonymous1,580 posts Feedback hi, I do have the same problem to playback wav files using windows media player or realone player, both failed to download the codec. But I noted that both were ok to play the same wav files around half a year ago when my old pc was not broken down. Actually I did find mplayer2 in win98 has no problem so I don't think it is the codec problem, but I do not want to re-install win98 again or in dual-boot. Can some

But I wanted to do a complete reinstall from Windows 10 and now I have a problem with the installation of windows 10 BSplayer. During the installation it needs to download codecs but I get the following error message: "Codec list could not be downloaded. Please check your internet connection." Of course my internet connection works and I still get the same message after rebooting the computer. Could it be a compatibility issue with the new browser "Edge" from Microsoft? I don't know how it tries play avi files to download the list, but I wonder if someone else has run into this issue... Share Share this post on Digg Del.icio.us Technorati Twitter Spurl this Post! 10 Years Ago Windows media player won't play some "Movie Clip" files that I've downloaded. (note I say "some" - I've got other movie clips files that play ok). What happens is that I double click on the icon and Windows media player opens and then it searches for codecs: "Requesting codec server.... locating codec server" etc and then it says "error downloading codec". But I've downloaded codecs recently. I also did a Windows media player update, which was nice, but hasn't sorted this problem. Incidentally if I copy these files to compact disc they play fine in my standalone DVD player on my TV. Anyway the WMP error centre said this, C00D11D1: Cannot play the file Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there might be a problem with the sound or video device, such as a sound or video card. Your sound or video device might require an updated driver. To determine if an updated driver is available, see the Windows Update page at the Windows Update Web page at the Microsoft Web site, or see the sound or video device manufacturer's Web site. Error ID = 0xC00D11D1, Condition ID = 0x00000000 Any help would be appreciated. Have you tried that? I would try what the error suggests. -T 0 Discussion Starter kriskarrera 10 Years Ago Yeah afraid I've tried that. I've done a Windows update, Windows media player update, uninstalled and reinstalled WMP, same with the codecs. It's weird, it'll play "Windows Media Audio/Video" files and most of my "Movie Clip" files except a few. Very odd 0 tayspen 28 10 Years Ago *Double post sorry* 0 tayspen 28 10 Years Ago Hm, if these ha
