Running on a Toshiba Protégé 830 laptop.I have Microsoft security Essentials and have been using Windows Firewall since the original purchase of the machine. After an update sent by Microsoft in the http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-performance/event-id-7024-with-error-message-the-windows/616c8e59-4d8c-4aff-ac3d-886b15d71dc1 fall of last year which I had some trouble getting to load without failures. The msiexec.exe file was constantly running which caused the fan on the cpu to run constantly. If the program was left "unsuspended" in resource monitor a blue screen crash would occur if I used malwarebytes to scan it. That is issue cleared it self about two weeks ago and I have not had that as a problem since. http://www.tweaking.com/forums/index.php?topic=1857.0 (I have no Idea what caused it to start being a problem or end being one, in any case it no longer happens.) Malwarebytes did not find any viruses. MS Security Essentials did not find viruses. However during the troubleshooting I noticed that the Windows firewall was not running and would not start. In services I get the following message "Windows could not start the Windows Firewall on Local Computer. For more information, review the System Event Log. If this is a non-Microsoft service contact the service vendor and refer to the service-specific error code -2144206818." The system Event Log has the firewall listed as 7024 and reports"The Windows Firewall service terminated with service-specific error %%-2144206818."I used the tweaking.com program today in an attempt to fix this error. It did not work. The windows Firewall Authorization Driver - reports that it is started and working. The base Filtering Engine had been stopped but is not started and working as expected - restarting each time the computer is restarted. I am at a loss on what to do next? Ideas? « Last Edit: May 25, 2014, 12:28:34 PM by Wiloroc » Logged Shane Top Geek, err uh Dog. A few months ago I did a new MDT Build and Capture, the process was largely automated with the use of LTISuspend.wsf to check a few things before resuming. Recently I noticed that the Windows 7 Firewall Service wasn't running on some computers. Not all, but still quite a few. I traced the problem back to this particular build. Digging a bit more into the error - I could see Event 7024 ID's being logged - The Windows Firewall Service terminated with service-specific error Access is denied.. The following Microsoft KB article was useful in diagnosing the fault and confirmed that the problem was related to the "NT Authority\MpsSvc" account not having the correct permissions to some registry keys. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943996 It would seem that somewhere during the build and capture process, the service account permissions were stripped out or not applied correctly, possibly during the WSUS patching phase of the build. The following Blog discusses the specific, correct permissions required for the Windows Firewall Service to sta

Solved Windows 7 firewall error code 5 event id 7024 Posted on 2014-06-05 Windows 7 1 Verified Solution 8 Comments 834 Views Last Modified: 2014-06-13 I installed about 20-25 Windows Updates on there desktops last night. Two are fine, one has the Windows Firewall stopped as it no longer start upon startup. When I attempt to manually start, I get the Windows Firewall error code 5 message, and Event ID 7024 is displayed in Event Viewer. I tried everything listed under this link http://www.experts-exchange.com/Security/Software_Firewalls/Q_27878977.html (Cannot Get Windows Firewall to Start Windows 7): - permissions to the Shared Access registry key - Microsoft Fix It tools - Firewall Diagnostics The PC is cleaned, scanned with multiple tools. I am running Webroot AntiVirus on it. I have not tried to reverse any of the MS Patches installed last night as it would be really time consuming. Any other suggestions than the ones mentioned in the link above would be very much appreciated.
