The easiest way to do this is by adding QuickBooks Desktop program files to the firewall exceptions list. You can also allow access by opening ports. This is a less secure method, but you can use advanced options to increase security. The following QuickBooks Desktop program files require Internet access: C:\ProgramFiles\CommonFiles\Intuit\QuickBooks\QBCFMonitorService.exeC:\ProgramFiles\CommonFiles\Intuit\QuickBooks\QBupdate\QBupdate.exeC:\Program Files\Intuit\QuickBooks [year]\QBDBMgrN.exeC:\Program Files\Intuit\QuickBooks [year]\QBDBMgr.exeC:\Program Files\Intuit\QuickBooks [year]\QBW32.exe Expected Outcome Your Windows Firewal

August 21, 2012 by Chief Mechanic Print This PostIn a multi-user environment there are 2 QuickBooks services that need to be able to communicate with the computer on which the http://blogs.msmvps.com/bradley/2008/11/21/what-firewall-ports-do-you-need-open-for-quickbooks/ company file (.qbw) is located. For QuickBooks 2009, these services are QBCFMonitorService and QuickBooksDB19. For earlier versions of QuickBooks, the service QuickBooks19 will be named QuickBooksXX, where XX is replaced by windows firewall 2 digits. Windows Firewall can block these services, preventing normal multi-user operation. Some common QuickBooks errors that may be associated with firewall issues are listed at the bottom of this post. To stop this unwanted behavior, the solution is to add both services to the Exceptions list in Windows Firewall on both the computer hosting the company file (.qbw) and each workstation in the windows firewall is multi-user configuration. The Exceptions list is a list of programs that Windows Firewall will not block. The executable files (including their normal folder locations) are:
C:Program FilesIntuitQuickBooks2009QBDBMgrN.exe
C:Program FilesCommon FilesIntuitQuickBooksQBCFMonitorService.exe
Start with the computer hosting the company file and proceed to each workstation in turn, completing the steps outlined below on each computer. To add these programs to the Windows Firewall Exceptions list in Windows XP, click the Start button and open the Control Panel. Choose Windows Firewall in Classic View or Security Center in Category View. Click on the Exceptions tab as shown below. Click the Add Program… button to add the first service to the Exceptions list. Click the Browse… button and navigate to the location of your QuickBooks program. For QuickBooks 2009, this is usually:
C:Program FilesIntuitQuickBooks2009
Choose QBDBMgrN.exe from the list and click Open. Click Ok to add this service to the Exceptions list. Repeat this process to add the next service to the Exceptions list. Click the Add Program… button and navigate to the location for common files used by Intuit products. For QuickBooks 2009, this is u

Do NOT disable the firewall. Click on allow a program through the firewall Click on Add port Do this for each port in that list for the versions of quickbooks you have running on the server. You do not need to make any port adjustment for port 80 and 443, that is done in the CEICW wizard (or whatever they call that wizard these days) Posted in: quickbooks 2009 2 Thoughts on “What firewall ports do you need open for Quickbooks?” sproket90 on November 24, 2008 at 5:15 pm said: you got so many holes in your firewall it looks like swiss cheese… maybe you ought to save yourself some time and trouble and rely on a good perimeter firewall… bradley on November 24, 2008 at 5:21 pm said: FYI Sproket that is not meant to be the outside firewall. Server 2008 ships with the firewall enabled on the server. Do NOT turn it off. This is standard operational procedure for the internal nic.
