However lately users are getting the above error message first thing in the morning, then http://www.tek-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=1297319 the problem just goes away.I have checked and there are no users in it, there is no LDB file.Does anyone have any ideas what could be the problem? Thanks in advance to anyone who can help. RE: Error 3204 Database already exists Remou (TechnicalUser) 2 Nov 06 13:59 Here is a quote from Google Groups, which may indicate where the problem is occuring. My name is Kerri Lipe. Thank you for using the Microsoft Access Newsgroups. When you compact a database, a new, temporary database is created. These databases should be deleted after the compacting has completed. If they still remain in the directory, you might want to check to make sure you have the correct permissions that allow that file to get deleted. In the instances that you see a file not being created, either one of two things is occurring, either it is getting created/deleted in the Temp directory or the compact is so quick that you do not see it. I hope this helps! If you have additional questions on this topic, please reply to this posting. Solved Error 3204 - Database already exists Posted on 2007-03-12 Visual Basic Classic 3 Verified Solutions 7 Comments 3,757 Views Last Modified: 2013-12-25 Here is a snippet, which on one system gives error 3204 - Database already exists, for some VERY obscure reason windows live I can't figure out: ... DeleteFile CurrentDBFile DATABASE.Close 'it's dao db DAO.CompactDatabase CurrentRealDBFile, CurrentDBFile 'here I get the error 3204 ... The DeleteFile sub looks like this: ----- Public Sub DeleteFile(ByVal lsFile As String) On Error GoTo DeleteFile_Error '<- ERROR HANDLER SetAttr lsFile, vbNormal Kill lsFile On Error GoTo 0 'ERROR windows live mail HANDLER -> Exit Sub DeleteFile_Error: Logger.MsgError "Error " & Err.Number & " (" & Err.Description & ") in procedure DeleteFile of Module modFunctions with parameter " & lsFile End Sub ----- There are no errors preceeding this error message, so the DeleteFile sub probably works fine. What is the cause of the error? Is it possible that Kill is not finished deleting the file when compactdatabase is called? In that case, doevents might belp, but I cant execute that. Is this possible to fix? 0 Question by:JiriNovotny Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL 10 Active 1 day ago Best Solution byjaynee Knickers. Its 'cos its open, then. You need to check if anyone else is using it before calling DeleteFile(). Try to open CurrentDBFile in exclusive mode, and if it fails then give a message saying Go to Solution 5 Comments LVL 10 Overall: Level 10 Visual Basic Classic 2 Message Active 1 day ago Assisted Solution by:jaynee2007-03-12 I wonder if its to do with permissions on the different folders in which you're running this? As a check, you could temporarily assign Full Rights to Everyone just to test that scenario. 0 Message Author Comment by:JiriNovotny2007-03-12 It happens only sometimes, like in 1 of 10 tries, so I guess it's not caused by permissions. 0 LVL 10 Overal
