alwayys fails. Anyone know what the problem is (in non-tech language) and how/where I can fix it, cos it is pretty annoying and I xvid codec windows media player 9 have several top files which don't play. Cheers, Jimmy 04-28-2004 12:31 PMJimmy R windows media center codec error Basically, the problem is Windows Media Player 9 won't download competitor's codecs. Real, Quicktime and even authors of XviD mkv windows media player codec binaries are competition. However, you can download the codecs from somewhere else, and give WMP9 the ability to play a certain file. First thing is to download a codec finder, such as: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/291818 'TFO's Codec Finder': http://tfo.fasttrackcentral.org/ And identify, which codec is required. If that one doesn't work, try: 'AVICodec' http://avicodec.duby.info/ 04-29-2004 03:10 AMFrightfoO615 posts Feedback Cheers, I have downloaded AVIcodec and am ready to use it. But, now i have it, what do I do? How do I get the thing to identify missing codecs? Let me know ASAP Jimmy R 04-29-2004 10:42 AMJimmy R Feedback Load https://www.moviecodec.com/file-types/codec-windows-media-player-9-1805/ you video file into it. If it can recognise the stuff the file is made up of, it'll display the information. After that is done you can search for the exact codec, etc, that's needed. What details does AVICodec give? Try pasting them here. File name isn't needed, just audio/video stream information etc. 04-29-2004 10:44 PMFrightfoO615 posts Feedback Hi, No sweat - the thing works. had a look at my files on AVIcodec and found that the DivX codec stuff was missing. I then went on the net and downloaded DivX, and the files that now work. If this is any help to anyone else, if you experience the same problem as me with WMP9, it is likely to be the DivX codec missing. Get AVIcodec, search the file(s) that aren't playing, and click on the link to go on the DivX site if it is identified as the problem. Cheers for your help Frightfo0 - what was cloudy is now clear! article will do so because YOU require a codec for windows media player 11. The reason I can make this http://www.updatexp.com/codec-for-windows-media-player-11.html guess is due to the high number of emails I get on this http://superuser.com/questions/359121/wmv-file-wont-play-in-windows-media-player subject! Others of you may read the title "codec for windows media player 11" and simply want to know more on what can often seem a confusing subject... This article should give most readers a basic understanding of what a codec is and exactly what codec's are available for windows media player 11. windows media (NB - What this article will not focus on is how to play DVD's using windows media player. Before we delve into the specifics of what codec's for windows media player 11 are available - it would be good just to explain a FEW of the fundamentals. So what exactly is a codec windows media player and why do we need them? Well simply put the term codec is short for: Compressor / Decompressor When you make an audio or video recording, the "raw" file that is created is often VERY large. This presents us with two major problems: Storage and Transmission. Lets look at an example of what I am referring to... The other month my younger brother got married. I decided to use my MiniDV camcorder to record the event and create a DVD as a memento of the occasion. I filled up TWO 60 minute tapes, so how much room will I need on my computer to store this video? Well the answer is 13 Gb's per 60 minute tape! That's 26 Gb's in total. So not only am I going to make sure I have a large hard drive to store the video, there is also going to be huge problem if I try and transmit a file that size too. And that's the twin problem of storage and transmission. So what can be done about this? Well many years ago, circa 1980's, special "mathematical algorithms" were designed to make the files smaller but still play well on a computer. And so co

When I click the link to the video, the video plays in Windows Media Player without any problems. However, on some systems when the user clicks the link, Windows Media Player gives them the error: Window Media Player cannot play the file. The player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file All I did was copy the video to the server and store the URL in a database. A codec is like a key or a set of instructions on how to read that type of video format. MKVs, WMV, M4V, 3p2 (among many others) all have unique codecs. Although you are trying to play a WMV (Windows Media Video File) with Windows Media Player (WMP), it may not have the correct version of the codec or their copy of the codec may be corrupt. Also newer versions of WMP may use an updated codec that older versions do not. Try providing a link to the Windows site for that codec and instructing them to download an updated codec i
