When I removed the online beta backup software (Now Azure) and my failed drive, I was no longer able to manage windows backup from the https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/b2d13b27-8ede-4a2f-9b9b-7bda9d65f767/a-fatal-error-occurred-during-a-windows-server-backup-snapin-operation?forum=windowsbackup GUI. Note: I was also able to re-download the Azure Backup agent and that is now working like a charm as well. Share this:EmailTwitterFacebookRedditLinkedInGoogleTumblrPrintLike this:Like Loading... Solved Can't Start Windows Server Backup in 2008 R2 Posted on 2009-12-18 MS Legacy OS VMware 1 Verified Solution 2 Comments 4,985 Views Last Modified: 2012-08-14 When I try to run the Windows Server Backup windows server utility on one of my virtual 2008 R2 machines (running on VMWare ESXi it gives me the following message: "A fatal error occurred during a Window Server Backup snap-in (Wbadmin.msc) operation. Error details: Reading events from the event log failed (Access is denied). Make sure the Event Log service is running. Close Wbadmin.msc and then restart it." I have been able to successfully start another 2008 R2 server that is running adjacent windows server backup to this one on the same ESXi box without incident. I've tried to find the "Event Logging" service but it doesn't appear to be in the service list and neither the functional or dysfunctional server have their own "feature logs" as many other features (such as Group Policy) have in 2008 R2.
