The restore runs great, the C: and Shadow Copy components restore fine but it skips the System State and returns the following error "Error loading the system hive of the restored system. The uniform approach to fixing this is by getting into the Windows XP repair console and manually https://vox.veritas.com/t5/Backup-Exec/IDR-quot-Error-Loading-the-System-Hive-of-the-Restored-System/td-p/136092 replacing the file with the copy that was created when the system was first installed. However, any software or drivers (depending on whether it was SOFTWARE or SYSTEM that failed) that was installed after that point may not work since the registries for them hadnt been installed back then. Here is my method that I have been using to fix this. It reverts the registry to only a https://www.technibble.com/how-to-fix-windows-registry-hive/ few days earlier rather than back to when Windows was first installed. Note: You will need access to a working computer to create a boot CD. You will also need a fairly good knowledge of computers, BIOS and registry editing in order to do this. This article is aimed towards computer technicians. 1. If you don't have it already, download UBCD4Win using one of the mirrors here. If you do already have it on a CD, skip to step 3. To run it, create an ISO and burn it to CD you can read the instructions here. I wont write the instructions here because the ones on the previous link are better and this article is more targeted at computer technicians and most of them already have this CD. 2. Once the CD has been created, goto the BIOS and make sure your CDRom is set as the first boot device. Start up the computer with UBCD4Win in the CDRom and you will have some boot options. Choose the "Launch The Ultimate Boot CD for Windows" option. It will take a few minutes to load fully, but when it does you should see a Windows XP like interface like in the picture

It’s a mysterious place of strange spellings, capitalization, and spacing, but it’s also the heart of your server’s configuration. If there’s a problem with your server’s registry, chances are your entire network will suffer. In this Daily Drill Down, I’ll describe some problems with the system hive of the registry and how to recover from them.A registry refresherThe registry is a database that records and updates any and all settings changes you make on the computer. If you change your wallpaper or your display settings or install software on your server, Windows 2000 records these changes in the registry. The registry consists of subtrees, keys, values, data types, and hives.Subtrees represent the logical structure of the registry. Keys, values, and data types are all the information contained in the registry subtrees. They are all part of the registry’s logical structure. Data types represent the kinds of data the registry is expected to record (for instance, simple text strings or binary information). Hives, on the other hand, represent the registry’s physical structure. You can edit your server’s registry using two different utilities, Regedit (Regedit.exe) and Regedt32 (Regedt32.exe). Recovering from a corrupt hive, windows system32/config file errors or even some registry stop errors like c0000218 can be easy if you know how to get into system restore without windows being able to load. In an earlier help page I wrote about using a Windows XP disk and using the recovery console to get to a very primitive but effective DOS like screen (command prompt) that allows the user the ability to put the files from the system restore folder into the system32 config folder to restore the registry. This time I am going to do the repair without the aid of a live CD. I am using another computer to move the files. It can be done by using the run command from the start menu in XP. First you need to have another computer and an adapter for the hard drive. If you don't have an adapter you can plug the hard drive into the inside of the computer that works. (This article assumes you know how to do this.) Once you have the drive working on the functional computer, check to see what drive letter it ends up in the new computer. (Th
