Error Installation Failed D I386 Asms
there, I'm Ryan. One day in.. August? I tried to reinstall Windows XP CLEANLY (not a repair, whatever that is). So I format the C: drive and you know everything goes fine until I am met with that error.I have literally tried about everything I can that I found online, nothing is working. The registry editor or device manager will not open.Setting the CD/DVD drive the file asms on windows xp professional is needed in the BIOS second and HDD first doesn't work.I burned the contents of i586(where asms is) onto a separate disc and that doesn't work.I tried entering every letter repeatedly, that doesn't work.I tried to boot off of a USB, nodo.Inserting the CD when asked doesn't work. However it does display a CD icon on the mouse and the drive light glows.. Many people say use a secondary drive, My computer only has 1.Then there are those answers about replacing drives or opening it up and all that, I can't do that the issue is.-------------------------------And that is not the only thing that has happened since this install. Even when the XP disc is inside and the CD Drive is set to boot first, it no longer displays "Enter any key to boot off CD" message. All it does now it have a little blinking line for a while, and it goes to the HDD. The light is on when it does that. I even inserted a Windows 2000 disc and it doesn't boot from that. WTH happened?!This computer is a Compaq Evo D510 Tower I believe

Get the answer willjackson00 June 5, 2009 8:52:05 AM I was having the same errors when attempting to install XP home to a dell machine that I was working on for a customer. I tried everything I knew to fix the problem, even down to swapping out drives, memory, cleaning the laser on the CD-rom. What eventually fixed the problem was when I burned the same ISO from a different program besides Nero. I used PowerISO and burned it with the default settings and everything ran smooth. Also another solution that seemed to help out a few other people was to burn the image to a DVD, try that if this doesn't help you. of the components that windows needs to continue setup could not be installed. the parameter is incorrect.also.....the request could not be performed because of an i/o device error. Votes: Rating: 0 Delete: 0 --- Replies to this Problem --- From: Steve on 11/05/2015 Was installing with a USB on a netbook Acer. My solution was shift f10 command prompt and typing d: enter, e: enter, f: enter until i got to U. Apparently on my netbook, U was the drive for the usb. Went to the location popup and typed u:\i386 and bam. Had to wait and type down arrow and enter probably 25 times but install is all good.
