It's a Fedora Core 4 operating system running VMWare Workstation 5.5.3. The laptop has no built in CD-ROM and I'm using a USB CD-ROM.I'm trying to install Windows XP SP 1. I'm getting a fatal error during the Windows installation. The setuperr.log file reads as follows:Error:Installation Failed: D:\I386\asms. Error Message: Incorrect function.***Fatal Error:One of the components that Windows needs to continue setup could not be installed.Incorrect function.***Can anyone help me pinpoint the source of this error?Thanks,\- Steve Kadish 1974Views Tags: none (add) This content has been marked as final. Re: "Installation failed: Incorrect function" when installing WinXP as gue KevinG Feb 4, 2007 2:45 PM (in response to rskadish) Hi Steve,It sounds like a possibility that you have a bad install CD or the Drive is having difficulties reading the CD correctly. Is this an original MS install CD, OEM CD, or is it a burned copy? Like Show 0 Likes (0) Actions 2. Re: "Installation failed: Incorrect function" when installing WinXP as gue rskadish Feb 4, 2007 2:50 PM (in response to rskadish) Hi,Thanks! I was actually about to update the posting myself. I found the answer via Microsoft's support site. It was an OEM CD, and when I switched to a "retail" CD the issue disappeared.Thanks,\- Steve Like Show 0 Likes (0) Actions Go to original post Actions Remove from profile Feature on your profile More Like This Retrieving data ...
