Windows 7: Windows doesn't recognize my folder full of .ico files 23 Jun 2012 #1 junkdumpster Windows 7 Professional 32bit 1 posts Windows doesn't recognize my folder windows xp desktop icons missing on startup full of .ico files Hi, I'm new to the forums, so please forgive me if I'm not doing everything correctly. I'm having trouble changing my shortcut icons. Specifically, I'm trying to change the icons for my Chrome application shorcuts saved in a folder on my system. I found some icons using Icon Finder (Icon Search Engine | Iconfinder), and saved them in a windows 7 no desktop icons folder in My Documents. All of the files are .ico files, formatted to the proper size, and are the only files in that folder. I then go through the normal process by going to the shortcut, right-clicking, hitting "properties", selecting "change icon", and then locating the folder and the file located within. However, every time I do, Windows displays a message that reads "the file 'lfile location' contains no icons. Choose an icon from the list or specify a different file." I'm running Windows 7 Professional 32bit. Any help would be appreciated. How To Convert Png To Ico
Desktop UI Question 0 Sign in to vote Hi,I am running Vista convert image to icon Ultimate and I am having problems off and on with icons turning black (some on the desktop, some in start,.ico Files
some install EXEs, randomly on the PC). The icons are still shaped as they should be but some of the icons are showing up black. I first noticed this after I http://www.sevenforums.com/customization/236638-windows-doesnt-recognize-my-folder-full-ico-files.html installed Vista SP1, however I removed it and all of the icons are back to the way they were. Now looking through some of the start menu folders I see that the icons are indeed turning black again. The same thing is happening on my desktop - this is also for programs like iTunes and AnyDVD, legit software that had icons before. If I https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/78d458a1-8e05-494e-a3ad-83f5930ca538/icons-turn-black-error-contains-no-icons?forum=itprovistadesktopui right click the file and attempt to change the icon, I get an error stating that the file "Contains no icons" but it sure had icons a few hours ago!I have reinstalled some of the programs, but it appears that Vista does not like the type of icons stored in the EXEs. I am a computer professional so I have done as much trouble shooting as I am capable of at this point. I have confirmed that all of my drivers are up to date, and with the exception of SP1, Vista Ultimate is fully up to date.I look forward to the replies! Thanks,Brian Saturday, July 05, 2008 1:41 PM Reply | Quote All replies 0 Sign in to vote Hi Brian First, have you ever used any utility or registry edits to remove the shortcut arrow overlay in Vista. If so, make sure that utility is uninstalled or the registry edit is removed. Open Windows Explorer and go to Organize/Folder Options/View Tab. Place a check mark in the 'Show Hidden files and folders' box. Remove the check mark from 'Hide extensions for known file types' and 'Hide protected operating system files (RecoReceived: 0 I can't figure out how to replace my desktop icons/shortcuts with the ones I've created. When I right click, shortcut, change icon, browse to where the icons are located I get a: 'The file contains no icons' message. If i put all the http://www.w7forums.com/threads/changing-desktop-folder-icons.18495/ icon images on my desktop I can then use them, but apart from looking messy I then have double icons for all my folders. Anyone know what I can do.? I just wanted to be sure it was an actual icon. When I store that ico in my pictures library I can change a desktop shortcut icon simply by choosing Browse. In the bottom right of the change icon window make sure the file choice is set to Icons (*.ico) or Icon Files (*.ico, *.icl, *.exe, *.dll) and then I can select your icon from the list. Could you post a screenshot of what you see? TrainableMan, Apr 28, 2014 #5 Advertisements Show Ignored Content Want to reply to this thread or ask your own question?
