Partition Hard Drive Windows Xp
other day I switched off the XP restore function after seeing my total drive capacity was out my 2gb. I went into Computer Management > Disk Management and found there was a partition 'unknown health partition'. I downloaded PartitionMagic to merge that partition with the main partition and everything seemed to have worked fine. Now trying to open PartitonMagic again, I get the following error,

Init failed: Error 117, Partition's drive letter cannot be determined. An error also pops up if I attempt to defragment the drive, 'Drive C might be corrupted, run chkdsk /f'. I've done that, no problems found, but I still keep getting the error. Any ideas how to fix this thing? However, it is not compatible with Windows NT, 2000, or .NET server editions. It crashes if a Windows Vista partition is present, even if it is run from a different operating system, with the error "Init failed: Error 117. Partition's drive letter cannot be identified". However this error can be avoided if the Windows Vista partition is configured using Windows XP instead of creating the partition using Windows Vista or its installation disk. To fix this, all partitions on the hard drive need to be deleted and formatted into new partitions using the Windows XP installation disk, allowing for a working partition for Windows Vista to be created. The same error occurs in some conditions

I have a partition that i would like to delete and just redistribute that free space into another partition. Does Windows 7 have any built in tools to do http://www.techspot.com/community/topics/partitionmagic-init-failed-error-117-partitions-drive-letter-cannot-be-determined.114814/ that? The program has not been updated in over 5 years, so it's release pre-dates the release of Vista. You can use Vista and Windows 7's Disk Management to delete, shrink, and grow partitions. http://www.howtogeek.com/forum/topic/partition-magic-8 It will not move partitions, though, so it's not likely that you can redistribute the space exactly how you wish to. There are newer partition managers, some commercial and some freeware. Paragon Partition Manager has a free edition. Easeus makes a free partition manager, and some folks use GPartEd for Linux which can handle Vista partitions. I have not personally used any of these products. On the rare occasion when I need to move a partitions, I use Norton Ghost to backup the data, delete and re-create the partition with Disk Management, then restore the data from backup. EDIT: forgot one, Acronis Disk Director which does not have a freeware version. Reports: · Posted 7 years ago Top InDiSent Posts: 1084 This post has been reported. Thanks ScottW. A few comments about the response from Scottw ..... The free versions of Paragon Parition Manager and Easeus free partition manager only work on 32bit ve
