Windows 7: Problems setting up an extender (Xbox 360) 06 Jun 2009 #1 sleeper Windows 7 1 posts Problems setting up an extender (Xbox 360) Sorry if something has http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_vista-pictures/configuration-error-when-setup-xbox-360-using/cb4e3d4e-b525-49df-ae2f-90a0a8696838 been posted already like this; I did a quick search and couldn't find anything to solve my particular problems. First, I'm using RC1 7100. My router is a Belkin Wireless G router. My PC is connected wirelessly to the network. The Xbox is connected via ethernet. I have Windows Firewall completely off and no other firewall installed. In the network map, I can see the Xbox http://www.sevenforums.com/media-center/12329-problems-setting-up-extender-xbox-360-a.html 360. When I first attempted to add the Xbox as an extender, WMC didn't recognize it on its own. I then performed the "add an extender" option with the 8 digit code. The little circle appears and spins in the middle of the screen, but when it reaches the "Configuring your extender" stage, it stops spinning and my PC locks up. The Xbox has "Downloading" on the screen at this point. The PC doesn't respond to ctrl-alt-del or alt-f4. I left the computer at this stage for about 30 minutes. After shutting it down, WMC now shows the extender but says it needs to be configured. I type in the code and I get the following error message: "Configuration Error: An error was encountered while configuring yoru computer for use with this Extender." I did a system restore to June 4th and tried the setup again, just to see if it was just a random bug. Same thing happened again, though this time I let it go for an hour. Any suggestions? Optic-Flare New MemberJoined:Aug 15, 2009Messages:12Likes Received:0 Good afternoon, I am currently using Windows 7 X64. My wife recently purchased me an Xbox 360 Elite how to configure for my birthday, but I am having some problems setting it up as a media extender. (to put it mildly) When I go into Windows Media Centre I can immediately see the Xbox with an option to configure, so I jump through the hoops and enter the number from the Xbox into Windows media Centre. I then get the message: Configuration Error An error was encountered while configuring your computer for use with this extender I have followed the steps at (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932342) several times but removing the certificate and Restarting the Network List Service does not appear to work. I have tried everything again with the firewall and antivirus off but I still get the same message. If anyone can give me some help it would be appreciated. #1 Optic-Flare, Aug 15, 2009 Last edited: Aug 15, 2009 reghakr Excellent MemberJoined:Jan 26, 2009Messages:14,220Likes Received:180 try going to Start > Run, and type services.msc. Tags: Configuration Xbox 360 Media Center Windows 7 Last response: October 18, 2014 3:01 PM in Windows 7 Share miked79 February 23, 2011 9:29:44 PM First off been working with computers for 10 years. Im extremely frustrated over this , that I cannot get this to work. It worked before, I changed nothing, then 1 day it just stopped working. I updated nothing, changed nothing, added nothing. I have win 7 ultimate. And the new xbox 360 slim running on wireless. I have a static Ip for my xbox, and my router settings are set to DMZ it. I have network discovery on. Media streaming on. Media Center Extender serivce on MCE is set to go through windows firewall. UPnP is enabled and running Im on Home Network. My xbox does not recognize my PC. So every time I select media center on the XBOX , it wants me to set it up. ( with the 8 digit key ) I put the key in like normal on the PC's Windows Media Center, and it tells me it cannot find the extender. Note everytime its unable to find the Extender and fails to connect, I check my services on the PC, And Windows Media Center Extender Service gets disabled, and it also gets unchecked on the Windows Firewall. I have tried disabling windows firewall and my personal firewall . Same problem. I have tried wired connection and DHCP with xbox. Same problem Reset router / modem . Manually Port forwarded xbox. Same problem My event log gives me this error ( everytime WMC cannot connect to the Xbox ) Event ID 538 Media Center Extender Setup failed as the Extender WAS detected on the network but the UPnP search for the Extender failed (timed out after 20000ms). Anyone have ANY clue what the problem is? Thanks PS Xbox live works just fine. More about : xbox 360 windows media center noble February 24, 2011 9:3
