Several users have complained of a "corrupt zip folder" after downloading the file directly from the website (albeit the site is built on Drupal but it is using the public download method so it should be a direct download) The error message when they try to open it in Windows is: The compressed (zip) folder is invalid or corrupted I have tried this myself on compressed zip file Windows XP and using both Firefox 14 and IE8. Sometimes it downloads and opens correctly, sometimes I get the error. Another user is on Windows 7 and using Internet Explorer and has got this message after several download attempts. When I download via FTP using Filezilla I can open the zip file without errors. As FTP and HTTP download works at times, then I assume the file on the server is not corrupted but something happens during download and re-uploading the file would not fix anything (and I have tried this). I created the zip file using IZArc but I am not so sure the method of creation is relevant in this case as it sometimes works. What causes the above error messages? Why does it happen some of the time and not all of the time? What could I do to ensure zip files open without any errors in future? zip share|improve this question asked Aug 20 '12 at 11:56 authentictech 911115 The answer to all your questions is that the file is corrupt. February 04, 2015 14:35 How big is this Zip file? Dropbox is known to have problems creating Zip files larger than 1GB or so. If you're using the built-in Zip support that Windows has, I would try a program like WinRAR, 7Zip or WinZip. Otherwise you may be out of luck. 1 andrew w. February 04, 2015 20:47 Thanks heaps for getting back here man. YEah the files are over 2GB. I tried your advice but had no luck. I tried using 7zip and winRAR, and got the same error in 7zip and a similar message on winRAR "The archive is either in unknown format or damaged". I removed some of the files from dropbox over 6 months ago, do you think dropbox would be able to restore the file somehow so I can try download it again maybe in smaller folders? But yeah, thanks big time for looking into this Rich R 2 jane h. May 20, 2015 15:52 i am having the same problem. did you ever find a solution? 2 Stefan M. August 02, 2015 09:21 Same here.
