When I invoke the new JarFile() constructor on java.util.zip.zipexception: zip file is empty this file, I get an exception which says: java.util.zip.ZipException: error in opening zip file When I manually unzip the contents of this Jar file and zip it up again, it works fine. Also, please note that this exception is seen only on WebSphere 6.1.0.7 and higher versions. The same thing works fine on tomcat and WebLogic. Also, when I use JarInputStream instead of JarFile, I am able to read the contents of the Jar file without any exceptions. Please

Using JarInputStream fixed the problem for me. –Boris van Schooten Dec 20 '11 at 9:47 I have faced the same problem on Tomcat Start UP [catalina.properties]: org.apache.catalina.startup.TldConfig tldScanJar WARNING: Failed to process JAR [jar:../opensaml.jar!/] for TLD files ZipException to resolve this problem add opensaml.~.jar into Application lib folder. –Yash Apr 11 at 12:19 add a comment| 8 Answers 8 active oldest votes up vote 11 down vote Make sure your jar file is not corrupted. If it's corrupted or not able to unzip, this error will occur. share|improve this answer edited Jul 28 at 18:56 FrankerZ 5,03841447 answered Sep 27 '10 at 7:14 arulraj.net 1,26711628 +1 More often than not this is the reason. –JamesC Oct 30 '12 at 9:09 in my case, i had also corrupted file –To Kra Aug 14 '15 at 12:01 add a comment| up vote 10 down vote It could be related to log4j. It seems that mvn does not handle "301 Moved Permanently" properly as expected. In such a case, download the JAR files manually from somewhere (the central repository, for example) and put them into your .m2 repository. I have a group of text files archived into a zip file. The zip file seems to be valid and uncorrupted because I can unzip and zip it at will from the command line with no problem. Ultimately, I would like to unzip this file into a specified directory. As a first zip file step, I am trying to construct a new ZipFile object (in java.util.zip.*) for this file using the following line of code: ZipFile zfile = new ZipFile(name); where name is a java String holding the fully resolved name of the zip file. The problem is that this command throws "java.util.zip.ZipException: error in opening zip file". I have also tried the following: File zippedfile = new File(name); ZipFile zfile error in opening = new ZipFile(zippedfile); The File object is constructed okay, but then I get the same exception when I try to construct the ZipFile object. I've searched this and other forums about similar problems with the ZipFile class, but most of them seem to be more complicated than this simple problem, involving JARs and deployment of apps. Any ideas about what could be causing this would be greatly appreciated. Aditya Jha Ranch Hand Posts: 227 I like... posted 4 years ago Class ZipFile represents a file entry within a Zip file, and not the .zip File itself. So, in your case, there will a number of ZipFile instances that can be taken from the actual .zip file. Google for some examples. I'm sure you'll get it in no time. Jeff Bullard Greenhorn Posts: 3 I like... posted 4 years ago Thanks, Aditya. I think I was/am confused by the following link which seems to provide a function to unzip a file into a directory: http://www.java2s.com/Tutorial/Java/0180__File/unzipFileIntoDirectory.htm This function seems to take the zip file itself, seemingly an instance of class ZipFile, as an argument and then unzips it into the directory which is also supplied as an argument
