The best part? We can do with just a few pennies. I have seen a few variations of my trick, but they involve making permanent changes to the case and don't work as well, so try this out first… What Causes This?Overheating. The RRoD http://null-byte.wonderhowto.com/how-to/fix-your-overheating-rrod-e74-xbox-360-with-mere-pennies-0131012/ is sometimes caused by excessive dust, but is more commonly caused by heat warping the GPU or CPU away from the motherboard. E74 is caused by the HANA/ANA chip warping away from the motherboard. This method will prevent overheating and fix most RRoD and E74 errors. WarningThis will void your warranty if you currently have one. RequirementsElectrical tapeLots of penniesThermal paste (Arctic Silver 5, can be bought at RadioShack)Torx 8 and 10 screwdriversSuper glue (optional)Step 1 Open the XboxThere are loads of tutorials on this, so I will spare myself from having to make one and show you this lovely tutorial by FixYourOwnXbox. We need to strip everything, including heatsinks. Also, when removing the motherboard, take off the squishy Band-Aid-looking pads from the RAM chips on the underside. Sadly, those pennies are better than Microsoft's supplied pads. They also prevent and reverse flexing in the motherboard because they are solid. Fix and Prevent RRoDWrap 4 sets of 2 pennies each in electrical tape.Apply a thin layer of thermal paste to the black RAM chips where the old pads were. Now, put the pennies where the old pads were, and apply the optional super glue to them (only a little)

There is a problem with the AV cable, try using a different AV cable. If the cable is known to be working then there is a 90% chance it's a scaler chip problem (the "ANA" or "HANA" chip connected directly to the AV cable) in rare cases it is the GPU." check on here for more info on that. What you have is basically a variation of the RROD. in your case it is not the CPU/GPU that is giving the error, but the HANA chip. A reflow of this chip might resolve it for a while at least. A permanent fix would be to reball the chip. check on herefor some idea on how to reflow and do stay away from purposely overheating your console. Hope this helps, good luck. Was this answer helpful? MS could have altered the error codes in the NXE update so that if a console gets a RROD error, it now shows up as a E74 error, and therefore MS dont have to fix it after 1 year warranty has expired. Please fill in the poll and lets see if MS are actually conning us and getting out of fixing RROD 360's under the 3 year warranty scheme.
