Config.nt The System File Is Not Suitable For Running Ms-dos And Microsoft Windows Applications
3:51 PM in Windows XP Share Anonymous January 1, 2005 1:53:05 PM Archived from groups: microsoft.public.windowsxp.newusers (More info?) Just bought a new PC w/XP Home edition. Tried config.nt the system file is not suitable for running ms-dos windows 7 installing one of my daughter's game-type programs (circa 1994) that runs fine on 98se, 2000pro, even runs fine on this new XP-Home machine w/Administrator type user ID. When I attempt to run this program (Incredible Coloring Kit (ICK.EXE)) logged on with my daughter's non-Administrator ID, I'm getting the error message: C:\DOCUME~1\Nina\LOCALS~1\Temp\. A temporary file 16 bit ms-dos subsystem windows 7 needed for initialization could not be created or cound not be written to. Make sure that the directory path exists, and disk space is available. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application. The above message is accompanied by CLOSE and IGNORE buttons, both of which terminate all attempts to run the program. I have verified the following directories (folders) exist: C:\Documents and Settings\Nina\Local Settings\Temp I've also been able to successfully copy and paste exsiting TMP files in the above folder as well as delete TMP files in this folder, thereby assuring me my daughter's ID has read/write/delete rights to this folder. Any ideas??? More about : bit program temp file initialization error temporary Anonymous January 1, 2005 4:27:00 PM Archived from groups: microsoft.public.windowsxp.newusers (More info?) 16 Bit Ms Dos Subsystem Error Ntvdm Cpu
Subsystem Issue Hey guys...I have windows xp sp2. My problem: When I try to install/run an config.nt windows 7 ms-dos based application (.exe) I get the following error: 16 bit Windows Subsystem: < or could not be written to. Make sure that the directory path exists, and disk space is available. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.>> Now this error is getting on my nerves for some time now. But I can't remember http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/100769-45-program-temp-file-initialization-error-temporary if it was always like this. Here are my system specs (although I don't think they're much of a help, 'cause I'm having the same problem on another computer too): Intel Celeron D (2.93 GhZ), 512 MB DDR, 256K L2 Cache, 533 MhZ FSB, Intel Extreme Graphics 3D. Also...there are two programs always running in "background" (for safety): AVG Antivirus and Spybot S&D. Could somebody please (I beg you) help me!? Remember I said that I have another computer with Windows XP on it? And remember that I said that I have the same problem on that one? Well...forget about it. I wanted to check. So...I ran the program on the other computer and it worked! Ok...The computer I'm having problems with uses: Widows XP HOME Edition Version 2002, Service Pack 2 The computer I'm NOT having problems with uses: Windows XP Professional Edition Version 2002, Service Pack 2 So...could somebody help me now?! P.S...I don't want to install XP pro on this computer... dj_doru666 View Public Profile Send a private message to dj_doru666 Find all posts by dj_doru666 #3 08-29-2005, 05:51 PM BOOM BOOM Offline Registered User Join Date: Aug 2004 Posts: 53 Have a looky here http://www.softwaretipsandtricks.com...ight=subsystem hope it helps BOOM BOOM View Public Profile Send a private message to BOOM BOOM Find all posts by BOOM BOOM #4 08-30-2005, 02:01 PM dj_doru666 Offline Registered User Join Date: Aug 2005 Posts: 3 Still no results...I've checked the autoexec.nt and config.nt. They're ok. But I still get that error. I also checked the path and diskspace (duh!)...they're ok too. I've checked the system for viruses/bugs/trojans...nothing. I got it working when we bought the new machine and it has run without problems for a year. All of a sudden we get the following error message: 16 BIT WINDOWS SUBSYSTEM C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\TEMP\ A temporary file needed for initialization could not be created or could not be written to. Make sure that the directory path exists, and disk space is available. Choose “close’ to terminate the application. There is a choice of close or ignore. This problem happened right after something was downloaded from the web. The computer has very little in it so there is tons of disk space available. I tried to restore the system to a previous state but it wouldn't let me. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. rusty2, #1 2006/07/23 goddez1 Geek Member Joined: 2002/01/12 Messages: 2,973 Likes Received: 49 Trophy Points: 618 Location: Houston, Tx Computer Experience: Depends on area. My first thought is "are you logged in as adminstrator"? The temp folder referenced belongs to the adminstrators account. My second thought is have you emptied the temp folders? From the startbutton run line type cleanmgr.exe. This is your default "disk cleanup" tool found via the longer route Startbutton>All Programs>Accessories>System tools>disk cleanup Or... manually empty the temp folders Or... use program: http://www.ccleaner.com/ My third thought, as the hairs on the back of my stand up, how secure is your virus protection and habits of using such? Our virus forum is quite good http://www.windowsbbs.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=&f=41 Read stickies16 Bit Ms-dos Subsystem Windows 10
