I have collected coins 20p coin without date for many years and I want the following information to be read by everyone considering buying or selling a 20 pence coin. Undated 20 pence coin The Royal Mint made an error in undated 20p coin 2008 minting the new design 20 pence piece without a date onEITHER side of the coin.A small number (250'000) got released into circulation. The majority of these coins were recalled, but some escaped and are circulating. This error is known as a 'mule'. It is extremely rare for this ever to occur. How this happened? the old design head (the fourth differentportrait of the queen) appearing on all 20 pences from 1998 - 2008. What to avoid? Since the twenty pence was first minted (in 1982) they have all been dated on thereverse (tails side)of the coin. Hence there is NOTHING rare about20 pences from 1982-2007being dated on the reverse (tails side). This is how they were minted and they are worth exactly 20 pence. In 2008 with the change of coinage the design changed with the date appearing on the obverse (head side)of the coin. There is NOTHING rare about these coins. Although they have more lustre (shine) than most other 20 pences in circulation they are worth exactly 20 pence. I have see these legal tender coins worth 20 pence being advertised for sale at stupid amounts. (one had a Buy It Now of £150, ridiculous for a coin worth 20 pence that you almost certainly have in your change!)
