Runtime Error 2501 The Outputto Action Was Cancelled
0 down vote favorite I've been asked to make some modification to Forms in an Access database used by a group I work with. I had to add a data entry form similar to one that exists so I copied one of the existing forms and made some modifications. When I click the button to open the form to test it I get this error: Run-time error '2501' the openform action was canceled access 2007 The OpenForm action was cancelled. Here is the code that is called to cause this error: Private Sub cmdCPE_EntryForm_Click() On Error GoTo Err_cmdCPE_EntryForm_Click Dim stDocName As String Dim stLinkCriteria As String stDocName = "CPE_EntryForm" DoCmd.OpenForm stDocName ', , , stLinkCriteria Exit_cmdCPE_EntryForm_Click: Exit Sub Err_cmdCPE_EntryForm_Click: MsgBox Err.Description Resume Exit_cmdCPE_EntryForm_Click End Sub Thx in advance for any assitance. database vba ms-access-2010 share|improve this question asked May 13 at 13:34 JasonR 1022315 It feels like something got screwed up when the form was copied. If I link the button to a new form it works and opens it fine. –JasonR May 13 at 13:37 Problem is I've done a lot of formatting on this form so to do it all again would kind of suck. If this can be resolved that would be awesome! –JasonR May 13 at 13:37 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 0 down vote Runtime Error 2501 can occur on calling the OpenForm method if there is a problem with the database. Try following the steps in this link under the headings "Recovering from corruption" and "Symptom: Cannot open a form or report"? http://allenbrowne.com/ser-47.html Could also be a problem with the new form's

I have the following code, whereby a button opens a form on a certain record depending upon the part number field selected on the current form. The code used for this button is as follows: Code: Private Sub showrecord_Click() Dim stDocName As String Dim stLinkCriteria As String stDocName = "frm_partdata" stLinkCriteria = "[Part Number]=" & Me![Part http://www.access-programmers.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=129491 Number] DoCmd.OpenForm stDocName, , , stLinkCriteria End Sub I keep getting the 2501 error code and it won't open frm_partdata I have checked the forms on open properties and these are clear. Putting a breakpoint in the code I can see it is picking up the right form and the right part number! What am I doing wrong, it works in my other DB's!!!! Edit: the part number fields are all TEXT fields. manix View Public Profile Find More Posts by manix 06-05-2007, 06:13 AM #2 boblarson Former Moderator Join Date: Jan 2001 Location: Oregon, USA Posts: 32,482 Thanks: 94 Thanked 1,781 Times in 1,565 Posts Are there any records for that Part Number in that recordset? If there aren't, then it won't open up as there's nothing to open to and therefore it would generate a cancellation error. What happens when you open the form directly without code and search for that part number? __________________ Free tools, code and samples here: To view links or i

The OpenForm action was cancelled. 2501 P: n/a SDL Help! I http://www.utteraccess.com/forum/error-2501-open-form-acti-t1992052.html have a system that was running fine and I was testing a bottom level form. I went from a menu to a screen where I could enter a phone number or name to find a customer. If the customer name hit on more than one person ther is an action was interim selection screen. I have been running thru these screens for 2 days now and everything was fine and suddenly I get "The OpenForm actionwas cancelled." Run Time err 2501? This is happening on several of my OpenForm commands! stLinkCriteria = "CUSTOMER_ID = " & CUSTOMER_ID stDocName = "NEW INVOICE" DoCmd.OpenForm stDocName, , , stLinkCriteria stDocName="NEW INVOICE" stLinkCriteria="CUSTOMER_ID=6" As I said error 2501 the suddenly several similar opens are getting that same error? This is frustrating as hell as I'm fairly new to MS-Access VBA and have a very tight deadline. So far I have found that writing screens 20 years ago on dumb terminals with a home grown database and home grown 'CICS' with Assembler code and 3270 control characters was about the same LOL. If you don't care, just trap Error 2501, and ignore it. If error handling is a new concept, there's a skeleton outline in this article Error Handling in VBA at: http://allenbrowne.com/ser-23a.html It also explains how to call a generic error handler that ignores the error, and logs errors if you want that too. -- Allen Browne - Microsoft MVP.
